Typical of what I have come to expect from the Daily Mail.

My heart goes out to the people effected however this headline grabbing stance does nothing to help. Whilst most experts are agreed that dredging (largely stopped in the late 90s) would have helped it would still not have dealt with the unprecedented rain the UK has had. January was according to the beeb the wetest January since 1778 and the rain has not let up since. I hear huge amounts of calls and criticism however not a lot of solutions. All the pumps in the UK would make very little difference and would just move water from one wet place to another, the only real solution is to wait until the water subsides.

13 billion sterling will not turn the Coalition into King Canute what needs to happen is for the water to subside and long term plans to be put in place which will not be a quick fix.
Some are wise and some otherwise.....
