You may think that this is nothing to do with you whilst residing in North Cyprus, however, some of you may need to return in the future and you should know what is happening to your Medical Records and who will have access to them after March 2014. You do not have to be involved in the petition side of things, but to be armed is forewarned. You may want to tell your family and friends in the UK if they do not already know who may be claiming some benefits. I have not received anything through the post that has informed me in the UK. On the back of the trifold attachment is care.data there is a mile of information on how this will affect us all if we choose not to opt out.

I would be quite happy for my medical records to be shared - in particular I would love my military medical records to be shared with a GP or preferably a solicitor - however, that will never happen as they will have been suddenly "lost" due to a computer failure or some other strange happening.

I can - kind of - understand the reluctance to have medical records shared but what is the big problem with it really please? Is it not better to have them available than to have them hidden away and lost in transit when you move from practice to practice? At least if there is a copy you might even get to see them yourself and find out the truth of why Uncle Sid sadly passed away!

Waddo, everyone is allowed anyway to ask to see their own records for accuracy and it is about informed choices as to whether you wish other people to see your records. I have alerted people to make the choice if they so wish, they will not have the choice after March 2014. As was said in the title it is for information.

Waddo ref msg 2. I am ex-mil and sought a copy of every record they had on me. Received hundreds of docs including every medical/dental/injections/PULHEEMS et al, plus Charge Sheets; the whole shebang. Write to APC Glasgow if you want them.

Funny enough I opted out of transferring my medical records only this week after taking my doctors advice. I had to see my doctor re my cholesterol and she explained what is happening in March so I could make a decision. If you opt out you have to opt out twice as one set of your records is made available to private companies (for a fee) ie Insurance Companies, Private Healthcare Companies and another set are made available to all NHS Trusts in case of emergencies in the future.

She also said it was possible as I have cholesterol problems I could well be contacted by a private company offering their services in the future. To me this seems wrong that these companies can look at my records without my permission. Another step in slow privatisation of the NHS by The Tories.

tomsteel, yes I got the big printout as well - when I asked for the large amount of missing information (which included an extensive stay in hospital) I was happily informed there were no records beyond which had been sent. Snow job springs to mind!!!!
And if you want real good fun and have ever been down to Porton for (tests), try asking them what they gave you - the silence is deafening - lol.

waddo, sounds like a job for your legal team to get their teeth into. There are, undoubtedly, some idle/incompetent/scurrilous civil servants in the UK system. A bit like here I suppose.

tomsteel, nah, can't believe that, must just be an oversight - lol. Thing is, when you take on the MoD in any sort of legal tussle you are looking at 5 to 10 years to get any sort of result, by which time I could well be in the box and have lost interest in it.

I did try for six years but have now given up as that was seven years ago anyway. My plan is simple, the military expect retired servicemen/women to live to a max of 68 (on average) and the Civil Service use and average of 70. I am going to wait till I am 70 then smile every day after that knowing I have beaten their average and it is costing them money - lol.

This was supposed to have ended 24 March, has now been deferred for 6 months as public do not know enough about it. On tv last night stopping people and asking if they knew about the sharing of medical records by NHS, most had never heard about it. Apparently they did a leaflet drop to everyone but as people have pizza, Chinese restaurant leaflets most people never read them.

I've read the leaflet and have to say I found it quite disturbing and have opted out. Only your DoB and postcode are going to be passed on as identification and they don't think someone can name you from that? All smacks of Big Brother to me.

I think it is good and despite the scaremongering it could be excellent for real research and helpful to target needs.

It's not scaremongering it's about choices, which now people will have a bit more time to read about and make up their own minds.

No problem with choices but some comments here and elsewhere are scaremongering. Used well this scheme has huge benefits.

Jonnie can you tell me what comments here and elsewhere are scaremongering?

I agree with you comment used well and will have huge benefits, but for me it is the words "used well" is where I might be concerned.

Given that information how could I possibly opt out anyway? I have no UK postcode as I do not live there or would the UK, once again, expect me to lie about where I live? Not a scaremongering comment I hope.

Hi Waddo, where did you get the quote from because I got this from the NHS website:-

"Potentially identifiable information: this is information about individual patients but it does not include any identifiers (that is, there are no personal details such as your date of birth and postcode included). We would never publish this type information because there is a risk that you might be identified. For example, if you were the only person in an area who had a rare disease then someone may work out that it was you even though your identifiers were not included. As a result, there are strict controls about how we release potentially identifiable information. For example, we would only ever release this type of information to approved organisations for approved purposes, and there must be a legal contract in place with penalties for any misuse of the information."

I am out as are many of the people I know, 3 doctors included. The bit on the NHS website amused me when I think how many records have been lost ie left on a tube, in a taxi then there are unscrupulous people that would give details for the right reward, only my opinion only.

Got the quote from "Maisimoo" post above, guess I got it wrong or "We" did. Whatever, how would they know who I am anyway as I don't have a postcode but my records will still be hidden in somebodys laptop on a seat in the tube somewhere - or having been sold on eBay. I have been in the computer game for many, many years and before that was in the security game in the military in communications, if there is one thing I can say with hand on heart it is this:

The only way you can keep a secret is to have it yourself and never, ever record it or tell anyone!!! As soon as you share a secret it is fair game and sooner or later everyone will have it as well.

And the NSA thought they were safe till one guy opened his mouth - lol.
