Noisy quadbikes
Is anyone else being driven mad by youths riding quadbikes up and down the neighbouring dirt track roads in the afternoons. Would not complain if they just drove past but they are going round and round, revving their engines and the sound is magnified by the mountains.
Why do young people want constant noise - cars, bikes, terrible music and shouting at each other!!! They will be stone deaf by middle age

Its what the youth do here: Whenever we are out walking and a youth on a motorcycle goes past, he thinks its very clever to lean back and raise the front wheel, like we are supposed to be impressed??? I would be more impressed if he fell off and injured himself! As for the quad bikes, we have the same problem in Ozankoy, a real pain in the backside!

We stopped going to the Bellapais restaurants because of this bike noise nothing worse than some wannabe Evel Knievel thundering paste the doors when your trying to have a nice night out, so restaurants take note your fellow men are wrecking your Livelihood.

Totally agree, its very anti-social and not to mention dangerous - there are people walking these small village streets that these idiots screech round.

We are in the Pia Bella three times today 2 quad bikes have roared down the road at the back of the hotel, a motor cyclist often rides past the front raising the front wheel. The police must see these things going on at some time.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
I guess there was no quad bikes back in the day , !!
im not sure it's a total pain in the arz, I'd rather that then standing on street corners selling drugs or nicking old lady's hand bags , I think it's a fairly small price to pay for the youth of today to let there hair down( remember that ! I'm sure u was a little bit rebellious in ya time , maybe ) they where probably doing it long before we all got here anyway & can't them selfs believe the reaction they are getting from us Imigrants !!

Re: Noisy quadbikes
very coincidental because even though I do not live anywhere near the city, the sound of my new ATV has been bothering me myself that I was looking into how to fix it and found this post
To answer the question of why ATVs/dirtbikes are louder, apparently old ones who use 2 stroke engines are louder by design and the newer 4 stroke ones are louder because of muffler design. Regardless they can never be as quiet as a new car due to exposed engine but the noise can be greatly reduced by installing a well designed muffler.
I have just made an attempt to order one from http://www.atvsilencer.com/ , provided I can get it delivered here, I will let you how it performs.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
Kemal,
Sorry, I think you missed the point here. The point was that the riding of them in villages and the like is becoming a real pain. The people who ride them are surely not bothered how loud they are, in fact the one near us is as loud as you could possible have it, he loves it. I think that's the whole point, its the testosterone thing here again.

I live in Ozankoy and every day an idiot goes past my house on a motor bike doing wheelies, followed by 2 quad bikes. They are driving me mad and the dogs "barking" mad. I am afraid to complain in case there is retaliation against my dogs! I know it's wrong to wish anyone harm but!!!!! just hope they don't kill anyone else in the process.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
Here some 'lads' deliberately modify their mufflers to make them noisier.... that's because they mistakenly believe that more noise means more impressive... (a boy thing) They are wrong, the engines are designed and tuned for the back-pressure provided by the correct exhaust system. By deliberately drilling holes in the baffles in the muffler they de-tune the engine and cause it to perform poorly in terms of fuel consumption and power output. Lots of popping and barking as the decelerate is evidence that they have done this.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
We have them roaring up and down the dirty tracks (which in fact are classified as proper roads) some of them can't be more than 10 or 12. I suspect its a case of children here being spoiled rotten and the parents never saying NO to anything, particularly if they are the eldest son.

If they are causing real annoyance and it warrants a complaint then pop to your local police, they will then sort it for you.

If enough of you complained to the local police station they 'may' well listen and try to tackle the problem, unfortunately they won't hear you on here.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
Used to have this problem in England. We lived near and regularly walked in forestry commission land. In our case is was motor bikes. The police tried to deal with the worst offenders by following them on high powered dirt track bikes. Problem was the major offenders thought this was a game and lead the police into some situations where for safety reasons the police did not follow. So to us nothing new. Still it can be a real pain when half dozen ride past the front door at full throttle and if I were malicious would solve the problem with a wire and two trees.

We lived in S Wales and had a similar situation. Local council installed barriers on the tracks and locals laid down tacks - soon stopped the nuisance.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
If they look underage call the police because if they get caught they will get a big fine, the bike taken away and a year extended on to wait to get there licence. A lot of the village boys are the ones that purposely make there bikes make a lot of noise and buy performance exhausts exspecially for that. When i first moved here when i was 16 and i would hang around in the village with the turkish they would all be boosting about the sound of there bike or how long they can do a wheely for thats how they all are. I have a neighbour that comes home at all hours and he does not stop revving his car to park on his drive they just love the attention i think. I dont think there parents agree with what they do i think they just have no control over there children, but then they shouldn't buy it for them in the first place really, they see it as its better then them doing worse things as doing drugs and things which i can understand. I once fell off my moped which caused a hole in the exhaust so on my way home it was making lots of noise but i wasn't going to push it up my hill, then a man comes out of his house and throws a slipper at my head as i was going along the road because he thought i had purposely made my exhaust like that. He also used to spray water on the other youngsters that past his house. But all these things here are a part of growing up there isn't much else for the youngsters to do so they are all obsessed with bikes and cars.

Re: Noisy quadbikes
Tacks seems a good idea, but my road is not a track, but a tarmacked road used by car, lorries etc. Also many local pedestrians. There is also a dangerous bend sign and a mirror. I am sure these idiots go even faster, when they can see that nothing is coming. Neither the motor bike nor the quads have registration plates, which makes identification impossible.

The riders of these bikes are not kids and they are on main roads, two motor bikes passed today the riders had crash helmets on their elbows!woodspeckie wrote:We are in the Pia Bella three times today 2 quad bikes have roared down the road at the back of the hotel, a motor cyclist often rides past the front raising the front wheel. Re: Noisy quadbikes
Stopped at a garage on the Karakum road early this afternoon for petrol.
There were 6 dirt bikes and 2 new large quad bikes, they were pumping their tyres up.
NOT ONE HAD A NUMBER PLATE.
but these people where on the main road.
The law make you wont to laugh.
These people were not young village boys.

Saw one doing wheelies on the Bellapais road yesterday, after he had stopped and taken his helmet off and put it over his arm! Not youngsters.

Although not always easy or possible due to the speed of these idiots, try and photograph the offenders (even if only on mobile phone) they would not even notice you doing this, they would probably think you were taking the picky as an appreciation of their "riding skills" print them off and take them to the Police and Mukthar. You could even submit them with a letter to the local newspapers. You never know, something just may, get done about it.
Good luck
