North Cyprus Police
I fail to understand the police force here. On the one hand, they are very efficient at comprehending burglars and other criminals. Also, when a car ran into the back of mine at some lights in Lefkosa, they could not have been more helpful, they contacted the chap's insurers and arranged for me to take my badly damaged car straight to a garage for repair. Excellent service indeed.
However, why on earth do they totally ignore dangerous and inconsiderate traffic offences? I have just returned from a trip to Girne and am astounded, as always, by the dreadful parking everywhere. On pavements, corners, zebra crossings, blocking accesses etc. etc., all with 50m of a safe parking spot. One has to risk life and limb walking anywhere if able bodied, it must be impossible for the disabled and those with young children and pushchairs to use the town at all. I am sure that a few constables or parking wardens could be financed by just a few days of fines, and the rest of the year be a nice little earner for the government.

Re: North Cyprus Police
I have seen on a number of occassions, traffic police issuing parking tickets to cars on the road outside Deniz Plaza and Mr Pound but I agree that more could be done, particularly on the high street in town where pavements are narrow at best and often it is necessary to weave in and out of parked cars. Perhaps dedicated traffic wardens rather than police officers would be best employed to instill a bit of order.

Ha Ha... I think a Clamping Firm would very soon lose all of it's clamps here to blow torches or whatever other means possible that could be used to free up the clamped cars. As the Mod from Ozankoy says..... Why bother. Still, nice to know that burglars and other criminals are efficiently
'comprehended' by the police....

I would much rather the police caught criminals than chasing parking offenders. They do their best I think its a small force.

Ok, Ailletoo, senior moment, "apprehended". Maybe their success is down to their "comprehending" the villains! I too would rather they caught criminals, Deniz, but may think differently if I were in a wheelchair, or even very elderly and not so nimble on my feet. My point is that a couple of parking wardens would easily be financed, and fines reasonably easily collected either at the borders as they do with speeding offences, or at licence renewal, or road tax.

I quite like the fact the TRNC is not OCD about parking, it adds to the charm of the place.
Notice that small shops seem to thrive over there??
I don't agree with out and out recklessness though.

I agree with Chris-everyone complains about the UK Police waging war on motorists whist their homes are ransacked by Pikeys.
Although they could I admit be more vigorous about some of the worst traffic offenses.
