a return to gas boilers
I have read all the postings, and talked to friends with gas water=heaters, but is there anyone, other than Deniz, who is 95-100% happy with theirs? I am in a ground floor apartment, there is another above with water tanks on the roof. Mains water comes into a ground floor tank and is pumped up to the roof, where a turbo thingy (not sure what it's called) adds pressure for showers, washing machine etc. Without it, there is just a trickle from the taps. Would a gas water-heater work with this system? Or would it be a problem?

I have the same system my main water tank is at ground level and a hydrofoil pump sends water up to the cold tank on the roof then down into the tap. Upstairs the hot water comes very fast downstairs its a bit longer.Three friends of mine have the same system and they are very happy.

Had our gas heater installed 3 years ago, best thing ever as far as we're concerned, cheap to run and instant hot water wherever we need it.We do live in a bungalow, l guess this does make a difference to overall efficiency, piping hot water to all bathrooms and kitchen.

Re: a return to gas boilers
I live in a villa with water tank on the roof and have had a gas boiler fitted recently - works perfectly and has been the best spend ever! The guy who supplied and fitted ours checked that we had enough pressure for it and was ok. We had feared we might need to upgrade our pump but not so. Great to have instant hot water and not have to get up an hour earlier to put the immersion heater on!

Re: a return to gas boilers
Can someone help please. We run off cold water and it comes through hot and hotter, filter in the cold and after a couple of minutes goes cold. I have to turn water off for a minute and start over again, is this usual, we have a villa?

We had same problem.Sorted it by adjusting gas & water temperature on boiler dials. If water in boiler heat exchanger gets over 65c it has a safety cut out.Bit of messing around but worked for us.

Re: a return to gas boilers
You must adjust the boiler controls, adjusting by adding cold water is no good it upsets it all. The boiler temperature is the only control. and I find these controls quite sensitive on our boiler, you move it a mm at a time, then wait for the water to adjust!! don't rush this. Also it can be different when its cold at night or early morning or midday as the water has cold pipes to go through. Do the adjustment mid morning, when the outside temperature is normal.

when the water is running you turn the tap slowly or it will go cold

Re: a return to gas boilers
The ideal temp. is 48c-50c, hot enough to wash up and not too much cold added to shower. The temp. is affected by the ambient temp. of the water so adjustments on the gas control are needed. You can get a Hermetic heater know where you set the temp and the gas is regulated to give a constant temp. These cost approx. 200tl more.
Some people have mentioned that they have had to run pipework up the outside of the villa to have them fitted, you don't. You can access the cold feed from anywhere and return the hot into any point in the hot cycle. You will need access to the roof to switch between solar and heater in some cases. I have fitted lots of these in TRNC and have had no problems to date.
If any one would like more info PM me.

hello Glenn, Sorry, can't be doing with PMs- all too confusing, but would like your views on possibilities and probabilities. Perhaps you could give me a ring on either 8212207 or 05428859087. Cheers.

Re: a return to gas boilers
As others have stated ours can be a little temperamental at times as it can get too hot but have adjusted it and a lovely hot shower in the cold weather is a must, and Glen our hot water boiler has been fitted on the downpipe from the solar hot water tank and when there is enough hot water from the sun/solar we simply switch the boiler off and the water flows through as normal so getting on the roof to switch over.

No clambering on the roof at our time of life!!! Boiler is as described by sparky71 (connected to downpipe from solar H/w tank) When the days come where it's difficult to tell whether we have the cold tap or the hot tap on because of external pipes being too close to the surface, we'll just flip a switch on the boiler which is at shoulder height at the back of the garage.

Re: a return to gas boilers
I also don't have to get on the roof to switch mine from solar to gas. The cold water pipe was cut at elbow height for me to simply turn the lever.
Mine stays at the constant heat that I set it at, I can add cold water to it if needed.
What I find is after 7 mins or so that it gets hotter for a second and that then tells me It will run cold for 30 seconds before reheating for another 7 mins. I would not be without it. My boiler is a Gold Therm Fontana, and was fitted by Chris Aldred.

Re: a return to gas boilers
I had mine installed by Ersem, Alsancak" about 4 years ago. Never had a problem and think it must be the best thing I've bought in the 10 years I've been here. I live in a penthouse, the boiler is on the roof.

Re: a return to gas boilers
Just to let you all know, that despite having no mains water, and frequent power cuts during four days, Glenn still managed to do an excellent job. He sorted out all the unnecessary bits and pieces on the roof, explained in plain English exactly what he was doing, and left clear written instructions for changing to solar panels when the time comes. We now have lovely hot water for showers. Many thanks,Glenn --highly recommended!
