Where to buy big cooking pots?
I have just been forced to increase my Dogs portions to 2.2kg of meat a day so my existing pots are no longer any use.
I need large(when I say large, I mean it ) pots, nonstick type(teflon?) and reasonable quality. I have checked Erulku and Lemar and they do not have one big enough.
Please point me to the right direction.
Thanks.
Kemal

Bigger than average teflon may be difficult to find purely because when pans get over a certain size they become catering size, in my experience caterers do not use teflon pans.
I got a large stainless steel one from 2001 which has seen a serious amount of jam making and is surviving well. Failing that a catering outlet perhaps. If you need to know who to use for catering products I can check with someone I know.

This is what I have been told for catering pots, may be helpful,
"İnoksan after Lemar (karaoglanoglu) or Serkor near to kyrenia privete hospital"

There is a catering equipment shop on the bottom bit of the Bellapais Road, from Girne turn right opposite Teachers Hotel, go past the chemists & the flower shop it is on the left hand side. However as previously stated professionals do not usually use Teflon.
You could always try the Wednesday market have seen giant pots there.

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
@dippersgirl, As I stated in my original email, I now need to cook 2.2kg of meat daily for my dogs. I usually boil it, adding some rice and sometimes vegetables/eggs/yogurt/cheese for variety. When I use a steel pan, I always get nasty black stains on it which is very difficult to clean. Teflon has been working much easier for me, but now I need a bigger one. Already takes 1 hour to defrost, 1 hour to cook and 1 hour to cool down to room temperature before serving daily, dont want to spend another 1 hour cleaning...
Thanks for suggestions, I will check to see if I can find anything. Otherwise I may have to either learn to live with steel pans or maybe split into 2...

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
Just as a note. There is a strong swelling of opinion in the UK about feeding raw food to dogs as most kibble type foods contain mostly cereals which dogs historically do not eat. Most of the massive dog food market is controlled by a few multinationals even the specialist sounding names have fallen to these guys. I know you are not feeding these types of foods to your dogs but have you considered doing some of it raw. I mince up raw chicken with various vegetables and mix this with some dry food, maybe you could do half and half.
Note onions are poisonous to dogs, nearly lost one some time ago from eating them.
You may be able to find this somewhere, the main proponent for raw in this as a bloke called Piers Smart, I have known him for years, he is a pet sore owner but specialises in animal care and nutrition.

It is no longer available but someone who is internet savvy may be able to find it for you

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
Like a lot of people, having read in depth the rubbish that goes into tinned dog food, like Kemal I cook my own (mostly chicken necks as there is masses of meat on them) mixed with left over rice and some veg. However I use a large stainless steel cooking pot which is perfectly clean each time. I let the water/stock come to a boil, immediately turn heat down to almost nil and them simmer. When I've finished I let the pan sit in water for a while and then clean in normal way. The pot is spotless everytime I want to use it. Perhaps you let yours boil for too long a time Kemal? Otherwise, you could do what a friend of mine does for her 5 very large dogs - she roasts 90% of their food. The smell is glorious!!

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
@jonnie, I have inquired about raw diet on this form back in October(http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/v ... =8&t=10636), when I was seriously considering it. I was eventually persuaded away by some people, especially my Vet and also some research papers I had found on the internet. The main concern was that although there was no apparent health risk to my dog, other animals, or humans could be affected by getting in contact.
As the issue for me was not that I want to feed raw, but rather, I wanted to give something to my dog that he enjoys eating, I dont mind cooking.
@ sophie, you may be correct, but I have no sense of smell, and I get easily distracted when I am trying to work and cook at the same time. Maybe I can try to work it out with a timer or something...
Providing Internet connections all over Cyprus via building state of the are infrastructure and hundreds of basestations while managing a team of 30 employees are definitely much easier than figuring out how to cook cleanly...

Hello Sophie,
Where do you find the chicken necks? Do you scrape the meat off after boiling them, or give them whole to the dogs, complete with skin and bones?

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
Lemar has bags of chicken necks for 1.65TL a kilo, the bags are labeled 'for cats and dogs'.
If you are a raw feeder, you can feed them whole with bones, shouldnt be a problem.
Cooked chicken bones are prone to splintering, so they are generally not advised, although necks has rather small bones with no sharp edges which can be swallowed and passed without issue on big dogs.
I use chicken necks and backs for my dogs diet and especially for calcium needs(another good source of calcium is grinded egg shells), bu I bought my own meat mincing machine, and I mince all chicken bones before cooking.
Overcooking necks and then seperating bones from meat is another option, but messy and time consuming.
Necks have approximately 25% bone in them, and you are suggested to only include about 10% in dogs diet, so you need to mix it up with other stuff and decrease bone ratio if you are going to include necks in your dogs regular diet.
You can understand if you are feeding too much calcium, your dogs feces will turn yellow/green and become bouncy. There is no short term effects in calcium overdose, but long terms it may lead to excess deposits on bones and all sorts of bone/joint issues.
Hope this helps.

Re: Where to buy big cooking pots?
Kemal - in reply to your original question re cooking pots ,have you tried China Bazaar?
Re the raw food,I can't really understand why anyone would need to cook dog food-Cooking is a 'human ' thing, and I am sure that they will do better off raw food as nature intended-unless I guess you could use the stock and soak in in their biscuits,or sell it to a restaurant.
I agree with jonnies comment about the crap that goes in commercial pet food.
Better to make your own, I think you need a commercial style meat grinder that will deal with the bones, you can reduce the resultant bone content by adding cooked rice veggies(you can buy cheap manky veg at ya Beles) and pasta.
Better to feed your pets on homemade food that you personally know whats gone in it.
Re the bouncy turds- you could mold them into ball shapes, paint them white and sell them to the golf club-that way you get your dogs to pay for their own food-what do you think?
