TV sets - where best to buy?

As it World Cup year I'll be looking to replace the TV in our apartment in the TRNC in May.
Can anyone tell me:
1) If plasma TVs are cheaper bought in the North (in Arcelik or wherever), or whether it would be cheaper to go to a hypermarket (like Carrefour) south of the Green Line?
2) If TVs are cheaper in the south and I get stopped at the Green Line - how much duty would I have to pay.

Don't do item two on your list.... if you get stopped they will confiscate the TV not just get the duty you were attempting to avoid off you.
LED and LCD teles are cheap enough in the north. Plasma is old technology these days.

Having fairly recently done the new TV purchase thing running around comparing prices etc we found Vestel to be the best value for money. We bought a 42" 400 hertz full HD for 1400tl. Arcelik are significantly more expensive. Vestel also has their own service/parts dept on the island and you get a 3 year guarantee.

Up until fairly recently I would have only recommended Arcelik because of the guarantees which they honour, but now Beko, Vestel and (Toros but they are expensive) seem to be doing the same.
