In the early hours of Sunday morning, Müslüm Akşahin, a 35-year-old, originally from Şanlıurfa, was found hanging at his work place in Lefkoşa. Apparently he had made an unsuccessful attempt earlier on Saturday afternoon to commit suicide. It is known that Akşahin had severe financial problems, due to his gambling addiction. He left a note writing that a certain casino caused his death. Akşahin who operated a tea service, was married with six children

I suppose you should weigh this up with this report from Turkey's Hürriyet newspaper, which says, that last year, by the way of taxes, the casinos here contributed 600 million dollars to the TRNC economy and employ 5000 people.

Very Sad. Like any other addiction very very difficult to break, be it drugs,alcohol or gambling and enter recovery phase. Individual lives destroyed and families decimated. Help is not easily available if at all. No one factor is to blame. Sorry if I'm sounding pessimistic, every life lost is a tragedy.
On the economics - do you know what %GDP comes from the gaming industry. There seem to be a lot of betting shops as well.
