Jamaica Inn BBC

Has anyone else been able to download parts 1&2 of Jamaica Inn on BBC i player?
Part one downloaded fine but am not being given download option for the other two episodes.
Add it to favourites as it's the only option given and still won't download.
Ideas please anyone........

So I assume you are using a mobile or tablet device ? If so the above is the explanation. You should be able to download them on laptop (but will have to watch on same) or if you really desperate PM me and ill sort out getting a copy yuou can play on any device onto a memory stick for you

Can't help you on the downloading but just to make you aware in UK there has been many complaints about the sound quality of this mini series. You cannot understand it, especially part 2 where it is just mumbling and a Cornish accent. BBC have accepted that they may have got it wrong.

I changed the sound on my TV to Cinema and put on subtitles, it was the only way to understand it, otherwise very good.

Darlotokat thanks but as I have been married to a Cornishman the accent isn't a problem for me and having three sons who all went through the mumbling stage as teenagers I can decode mumbling pretty well

Panchocat, then you have that advantage over the most of people that watched the programme. It was not only the accent it just was poor quality of sound added to it. At least you are 50% there:) Unfortunately the actors will probably now get the blame and they were only to tell it how it was, but it just did not work. It was not just the accent(didn't put that over too well).

Watching here in the UK I will say i enjoyed the mini series, very dark and brooding and for some reason I felt I had to watch it. Was one of those books we were supposed to read for GCE O level at school but at that time I just thought the book a big bore! Thought the filming on Bodmin Moor and beaches was pretty good and also the recreated inn itself, the desolation, mud and wet were true to the area. Add to this the fact they had no real lighting as it got dark made it all the better for me. No chance for the ladies to keep there dresses clean and tidy!! Times were hard in those days.

Even tho my wife is from Devon and I have lived here for 20 years I will say that the accent was at times difficult to follow and yes the sound quality did seem poor for some reason.

Still enjoyed it tho.

Followed it all and it is really lots of folks covered in mud and looking very unkempt! Also most scenes are in candlelight and therefore very 'dark'!
However, that is not really the main problem - nor is it the accents (OMG I am from East Scotland) - its the mumbled way they are recorded and many actors not facing the screen! I was tearing my hair out about it but did follow it through to the bitter end! All in all I would say don't bother recording - its a 'boob' by the BBC and all the reviews will tell you that.

Well I have just watched the other two episodes on the lap top and didn't find the accents too Cornish actually and yes there was quite a bit of mumbling although I could hear without too much straining, but I can see why there has been some criticism. Thought episode two was the weakest.
As for the adaptation I thought it was pretty good. It was a gothic novel and a very dark adaptation as Daphne Du Maurier intended the book to be. Those were dark days with lawlessness, poverty and filth. All depicted pretty well I thought right down to dirty finger nails in close up. Atmospheric too with the moor and beach scenes.
I didn't find the actors playing Joss Merlin or the Vicar of Altarnun fitted my ideals of the characters. But that's just my own visualisation/perception of the characters from reading the book.
It was the first of her work I read when I was about twelve but I was hooked on her books from then on and have read and re-read most of them.
I do remember the first time I saw Jamaica Inn (the building) on my first Cornish holiday and was very disillusioned that it was so tacky and commercial. But I guess the hoards of tourists there filled the coffers for the owners!
Probably not an adaptation the BBC will repeat because of all the negative reviews, but I am glad I watched it.
