I was told by an employee of Kib-Tek today that from Friday they intend to go on strike indefinitely if the Government dont come to an agreement over privatisation. OH GOD !!!

According to an ex minister friend the strike will go ahead as the agreements made earlier this year have been cancelled.It is a very bad situation for us all he said also stock up on petrol as they may join in. How can our small country survive? Tourists are thin on the ground already this year now this? We must be a laughing stock. I have filled my freezer with water at least it will be cold for a few days.

Just a thought if those of you who have generators would be willing to let those of us that dont re charge phones and laptops please post on here at least we can communicate then or if you have any info where this can be done even for a small fee.

Indeed Deniz\: Nobody seems concerned about the serious danger to health, indeed life, of older people, those with health problems and the disabled , and young children from (a) being plunged suddenly into darkness with risks of falls etc. and (b) not even being able to run a simple fan, let alone air conditioning. Already at thi time of year there are hospitalisations as a result of the effects of the heat.

Re your ealier post I have an "Invertor" which stores electricity in batteries and charges up when the electicity comes on. However it has limited capacity and duration - and will be no use if there is a continuous strike of long duration. I am thinking about getting a generator as well - it I do and there is enough capacity (I am one of those at risk) Iwould allow people to recharge phones - but depending on demand would prioritise those most in need . But I hate ot add to the doom and gloom, bt I have also heard there is a telephone strike threatened and anyway a long term lack of electricity may affect the base stations. Even worse electricity is needed to pump up water.

I wonder if people with swimming pools will allow those of us who dont have them to use them to cool down at night.

Apparently the workers at Kib-Tek have laid in supplies and they are prepared to fight for their jobs if the Army is sent in. It seems another Government about turn to an agreement. Why dont they just cut the power to all Government offices etc not to ordinary people. I m sure they would then sort it out quickly as the poor civil servants would have no air con in their offices and no communications.

Rambling Rose unfortunately the swimming pools wont be much use to cool down if there is no electricity as the pool pumps wont work and they will quickly turn into a health hazard.

The winter of discontent was in fact under jim Callahans reign as PM and focused on the ford workers strike when they were demanding something like a 60% increase to compensate for out of control inflation. Public sectors also striked including bin men and grave diggers. The conservatives were required to get things back under control. So many parallels with today's times I am afraid.

Can we appeal to the Human Rights commission if it goes ahead? Or ask the Greeks to supply us in return for all the electric we let them have during their crisis last year which they have not paid for?

well the government places don't pay anyway on there list of biggest owing most of it was government excluding hotels and places of the night
