Tom Jones last night
Was lucky enough to see Tom Jones at the Rocks last night, from the VIPlus balcony right opposite the stage. Hat's off to the Rocks Hotel for putting him on and organising this major international star to come here. It was a fantastic night and thought not a great Tom Jones fan, he was absolutely brilliant.
Great night, big thanks to the Rocks and all the organisers.

Re: Tom Jones last night
But who actually got invited? That is a real mystery. I know he flew in on a private jet, but to whom was he singing. Invited guests, paid guests, or the street and the passers by?????

I doubt if Tom Jones would turn one hair on his head at anything the GC protestors threw at him, he's too rich and too long in the business to worry about such inconsequential blathering from a bunch of idiots.
Well done that man, and everyone involved, about time someone stood up to the bully boys.

According to the Cyprus grapevine, 'invitations' cost 150tl

Ouch. But I still want to know who got invited to pay 150tl . Heard a rumour it was through the casino. Friends of mine sat in adjacent coffee bars and thoroughly enjoyed themselves, and all for the cost of aa cup of coffee. farbetter way of doing it.
Now if tthey brought over Bryn Terfel - my current favourite Welsh singer, I just might pay 150tl for him. (and odn' anyone dare say 'who is he?'

Former Wolves manager Mick McCarthy will think 150tl is quite cheap used to paying more than he wants to for something.
Yesterday he donated £20,100 to Children in Need to join Chris Evans next summer for the Dine and Disco event, headlined by Sir Tom Jones, together with his wife Fiona.

Aw would have loved to have seen Tom live. How do you get to see all of these live events ? I always think that live events fall short of good publicity in the North.

Hi have to admit...I am not a real Tom Jones fan..but he was AMAZİNG!
We went to the VIP bar but unfortunately had to leave as we had not booked!
So, we bought ice creams and watched him from the empty cafe opposite the Rocks hotel!
It was great - we could see him and sound was fab! What a voice..even my 13 year old daughter enjoyed it!
He even did his famous moves!
I love the summer here! I wonder who the Rocks will bring next!

Hi Marions, apparently I got it wrong, the invitations were 500tl. So Libby, you did well for the price of three ice creams

Wowee. i would not even pay that for Bryn Terfel, and I wonder if Tom Jones would pay that to meet me! Afterall, i am worth it, aren't I. Or I could have sung a duet or two and got paid some mmoney for it. Oh well, another lost opportunity - for him! so Libby, yes you did really well! 500tl. Guess it must have been a v ery elite guest list. h and did that include supper|

Well Marions, I,m sure if he had known you were available he would have invited you to do a duet, the pair of you could have sung, A long time, far away Just second hand gossip mind, but apparently, he was only on for 1 hour and taking photos, videos, were limited to the first half hour. Don't know if supper was included.

Hi Marion Im sure if he had seen you he would have sung with you. We are so lucky here we see him quite a lot. I have known him for a very long time and he has not changed at all.Tom Woodward/Jones to me is simply the best. I cant beleive you were so lucky enough to have him in the TRNC. What was the cost 500 lira come on for a superstar. Darren from Rocks can afford anybody he wants and all credit to him. I hope to see Rowan Keatin later this year in cardiff tickets from 80 pounds. Yes it may have been an incentive for the high rollers at the Casino but what an incentive and so many could hear it from outside. Wish I had been there. We could have done You can take your Hat OFF. love you xxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxxx

Still a lot of hatred out there.
Paul.
I fail to see how anybody thinks there could be a settlement with so much misinformation and hatred.
I heard that the owner of the Rocks Hotel is Tom's next door neighbour in Florida and said Hey would you come and play at my hotel. Tom said love to, no problem. He apparently had some comeback from the dark side but said I'm playing for my friend. He played in Istanbul, went to Athens (I believe)and then back to Turkey.
Can't music and sport be immune???? We all had just such a good time on Sunday night - it seems a great pity for it all to be spoiled. Whatever, I was there and it will not be spoiled for me.
Again, more power tto the Rocks Hotel and the organisers for giving us such a great show.

Re: Tom Jones last night
sourbrandy,
on "another forum" I used to plough a lonely furrow about any and all
possible settlements
it never seemed to me a necessary precondition that the two,
or even three and a bit parties to the dispute need particularly like each
other ...unless we are dreaming about some sort of regionalised variant of
the independent cyprus state of 1960-1974:
because north of the border there is little stomach for the security risks
this entails, though in all fairness I met a few turkish cypriots who'd go
along with it
and there are two other types of settlement which would not need much
in the way of trust or understanding:
an agreed genuine two state solution with the parties living more or less
apart ...rather like they do at present
for powerful reasons of their own, the bailout regime and the gc population
would find this a far too bitter pill to swallow
or a de facto separation...
hats off to tom jones for his committment and eventually all the world will
have to come to terms with the fact that just as eastern thrace has been turkish since 1923, north cyprus will have been since 1974
