Yes, it's on the front page of this morning's "Kibris" newspaper. Why was it not on the front page of "Cyprus Today"?

If you go onto the Near East University website it will give you all the info you need, i.e. times, parking, restrictions, etc. You can translate the page to English.

Well, what ever the early problems with their equipment may have been, it was better than 'all right on the night'!! They were fantastic and the crowd (of tens of thousands!) ROCKED!!!!!! Just been reading some of the vitriolic comments posted by Greek Cypriots on the Deep Purple facebook site. My God can those people carry HATE with a passion. Thank God DP took no notice and came to give us a fabulous set. I first saw them over 40 years ago at festivals in UK in my youth and have to say they have improved with age........unlike me unfortunately!!!!! Rock ON!!!!! Peace and Love to all Cypriots.

Agreed and "they" want a settlement!!! Like H--L they do!!!!The politicians may make lip service, but the ordinary man in the street doesn't want it. It has been OK for the past 4 decades, if it" aint broke don't mend it" Do we really want to adopt the Euro??

Owl Lady & MrsGee... I went to the Deep Purple Facebook page after reading your comments to see just what had been written, and found just ONE "nationalistic" crazed individual posting comments on all the threads, and hopefully they will all be removed as hardly generating the support and attention that the poster so desired either! I do not think that because of one person that you should tar all GCs with the same brush! It is the same mentality as saying all muslims are potential suicide bombers! Such a narrow mentality.

I have many friends south side, drive frequently all over south side in my TC car and have never had a problem with anyone, and indeed from talking to ordinary people (not religious fanatics) most do want a settlement with the TCs. Indeed the manager of IKEA phoned me North side yesterday (Sunday) to discuss an issue I had about their loyalty cards and assured me things were in the pipeline to put right within a month! Basically you can not have one unless you have a south side telephone number right now, which to me kind of alienates people living in the North and wrongly!

I believe such bigots as posted on the Deep Purple website are now very much in the minority. I wonder how many from the south came over to see the band? Now that would be interesting. Clearly there was no demonstration or trouble, so proof that the majority of GCs likely could not give a toss!

scubadubaqueen, I think maybe you have not opened up all of the comments (you need to click the see all button!). There are at least 10 different individuals ( I actually stopped reading the pathetic comments after this, but there are more) posting stupidity....one saying they have destroyed all their Deep Purple music collection because they played here!!! I do not tar everyone with the same brush, as you will see, I posted myself and managed to get a bit of abuse, but did point out that GC's were at the festival. Perhaps you should visit the page again....although on second thoughts I wouldn't bother.

I also took a look on the fb site and yes there are some comments which show that there are still some GC who do hold a deep dislike for the TRNC and its people. A bit sad really.

However that being said I am reasonably confident that the majority of Cypriots both north and south would want a long lasting solution to the current divide. As an outsider whilst I would prefer the status quo to remain (Only because the EU and all it brings may take away the identity of the north....and whilst the Republic of Cyprus has benefitted from EU money, they have certainly felt the wrath and pain in recent years) so I really feel it must be left to the Cypriot population to decide.

I think the concert was a great coup for North Cyprus and despite the negative comments on fb it was a great success and a great bit of publicity for the group and also the TRNC...just a pity we missed it by a couple of weeks!!

Lets hope that it paves the way for more acts to play in North Cyprus. And goes a fair way to removing the "smoke on the water"
