Aircon heater not working.

Have two aircons in my home that do not heat anymore, only cool. I know heater not needed now, but use it sometimes in the winter time.
Does anyone know why this has happened, totally useless with aircons so wonder if it just need gas refilling or has element gone.
Advice much appreciated.

Sonor,

If your system is a split system,it defo does not have an element to fail,the system goes into reverse to heat from cool setting,would suggest the change over valve has failed,perhaps the coil,if you know where the coil is on the condensor unit outside,try giving it a tap,although it could be one of many items to fail,sorry not to be able to provide the answer you require.
