Horrific Ex Pat Karpaz experience

We spent a really lovely long weekend in the Karpaz ! Yesterday we spent a while gathering rubbish on a beautiful beach close to our hotel. Two lovely ladies (think ex pat) went the whole length of the beach collecting rubbish in and out of the sea prompting us to do more ! We collected a big bag full and they had more ! Towards the end of the day we were packing up to head back to the hotel when a hoard of ex pats arrived. I know this due to the northern accent of one man saying to the other "this ones a stray" pointing to their dogs and they nodded to me saying "allo mate" ! This group of people had 5 dogs and set up directly infront of us although the beach was empty. The whole ambiance was wrecked and the dogs began to soil on the beach with no clear up from these people at all ! It made a mockery of the earlier efforts and made us feel sick ! There was no point in saying anything as I could tell it would fall on stoney ground and they sounded "tipsy" and were carrying opened Efes cans !!! If you know who you are and read this please re think your behaviour in the future, even if for the lovely ladies who spent their morning cleaning up other peoples mess ! You make me physically sick. no regards Barry.(no discrimination intended)

For what it's worth, I can understand your feelings and support your stance. I too would have been upset.

Allo mate, just wait till the direct flights start, and drunken half wits are brought here in their thousands, the infra structure won't cope , the roads will be like a death race, the moaning old gits that came here for P&Q will be slashing their wrists, as uncle Bob once sang, Times are a changin ans it certainly ain't for the better

Makum agree with the direct flights scenario and God/Allah forbid that Girne harbour turns out like Paphos or Ayia Napa harbours but must take exception to your use of moaning old gits who come for peace and quiet! Not all of us are old and not all of us moan.............

Hello All, thank you for your valuable input but was not intending to a liken the Ex Pats on the beach to those who have invaded the south ! I was just disappointed in their complete disregard for the absolute beauty of the place and for other people !
I suppose we experienced the 2 extremes of emotions ! Totally proud to be connected to the ladies who cleaned the beach and sea then, later, totally disgusted at the pillocks who soiled it !! regards Barry

It's interesting to read this. My Turkish friend works at the 'Wooden Houses' in Dipkarpaz and I'm sure that is where these people stayed, as she complained about the dogs making their mess in the gardens as well as a lot of dirt inside the houses and the houses left in a very messy state. They had so much cleaning to do. and the gardeners had to check all over for dogs mess.

If they had dogs you have to assume they are full time residents and not part timers or holiday makers.
Dirty buggers.

Would think it likely they are full time residents...whoever they are they are low life. Completely unacceptable behaviour and really does make me despair.

Whilst I fully appreciate that at some time progress will be made on a solution, direct flights will follow but I really do hope that it is a long time coming. The relative isolation of N Cyprus makes it difficult and not convenient for the dingbats of this world to figure out how to get here....all the better as far as I am concerned.

Whilst this group of clowns may be permanent residents, they are in the minority with their bad manners and inconsiderate actions compared to the many of us who love and appreciate all that N Cyprus has to offer.

These are the very type of people we make every effort to avoid.

Poshin ! couldn't work it out as they were obviously caring enough to look after a stray dog ! We are returning soon and if seen again will politely ask them to leave the country ha ha ! think I know my answer !! Listening to the English news on Bayrak Radio very often (yes I'm the one) there seems little hope of any reconciliation between North and South and whilst it would be good for many in many ways I hope it stays as is ! regards Barry

Biased as I am for all things North Cyprus, I do understand and appreciate the advantages of a reconciliation....but then I think about how the south have recently fared in the EU.....yes you can see massive investment and EU money in the south but in the last two years that dream has gone horribly wrong.

We love the whole island and despite the development in the south know it more than well enough to always be able to escape the tourist hordes....however coming back across the north we just love the feeling of stepping back in time a little, the unspoilt and relatively unexplored places (Yes it can be scruffy in parts but to be honest it is a mediterranean thing and we always look beyond this), the food, the people and the genuine welcome we receive despite our poor attempts at the language.

One thing is fact and that is that since 1974, despite a few incidents the island has been at peace and the mass killings of the 60's are no more. It may not have been politically correct in some eyes but the Turkish Peace operation in 1974 has certainly stabilised the island.

Have to say we will not be to upset if nothing much happens soon.

Talking to people in sleepy Dipkarpaz, they feel the same. Nobody is quite as poor as they were 10-15 years ago, life is easy, why change it??
Anyway as most of them are Turks from the mainland, they have nothing to gain from a unified island.

Long may it last.
