picking up/dropping off at ercan

Went to pick a passenger at ercan recently only to find that to access the pick point I had to go through a new ticket and barrier system - luckily I was not there very long and was not charged a fee on exit - does anyone know how much time you are allowed before a charge is made?

I was a little #'disturbed' when I took our son to the airport to see him off. Naturally his father came too, but as Alan cannot walk far, when we had waved goodbye, I went off to get the car to pick up Alan who could not possibly walk the distance across the car park. What a farce! I had to go and pay for the ticket for the time there, go out of the car park, come back in again to get another ticket, to p0ick up Alan and drive off, leaving without paying any more as it was within the thirty minute.s in fac,t might have been about three minutes. What a farce that one cannot just cross the car park and pick up a handicapped traveler without the farce of leaving and re-entering ande leaving again.

Add to that the fact that it involved a huge wlak to go through security and walk the lengthof the airport to departures end with no assistance whatsoever. Ifyou want a wheelchair it has to be pre booked, and paid for.

Ercan Airport seems to be losing its soul!

I quite liked it 12 years ago, or was it slightly less. A scruffy building with free parking and quite laid back and friendly. Not so now. They clal it progress. I call it aggravating.

Re wheelchair at Ercan. My wife recently flew to Dublin with Turkish Airlines and we requested assistance for her. It was readily available at the Turkish Airlines desk and no charge was forthcoming.

Pc4854 yes but it's quite a walk to the desk for a severely disabled person to collect the chair.
Marion's I think Ercan are catching up with the rest of the world on airport security. After a recent car related incident driving through an airport terminal frontage most airports now do not allow cars right up to the terminal.
Larnaca have a super efficient system that Ercan would do well to replicate. You park in the disabled bay, press an intercom button, ask for a wheelchair and a young man brings it to you and pushes you through all the check in procedures and stays with you until you go through to airside, by which time your travelling companion only has hand luggage so is able to push the wheelchair.

So Marion, you'll be happy to learn that the system is reverting back to the way it was: After consultations with the Ministry of Transport, the company managing the airport today announced that from today drivers would not take tickets if they were only picking up or dropping off people. For those wishing to use the car park, there will still be a ticket/barrier system ... with no charge for those staying less than 30 minutes.

In today's announcement, the managing director, Serhat Özçelik, told press that the reason for bringing in the system a few months ago was indeed a security measure, but objections to the system had led to today's move.

Convenience and objections seem more important than security then!

Picked up the wife from Ercan last night. Nothing's changed, ticket barriers are still in place and had to take a ticket.

I thought it was a great system and felt we were all treated the same. If we stayed more than 20 mins we have to pay and it encouraged everyone to park correctly. Cars left unattended outside buildings where there are large numbers of people is dangerous in all senses. Emergency vehicles can't get in etc. Dropping off if you just left friends at the terminal you just went straight to the barrier and placed the ticket in for departure. There is no need to go to the paying booth.

Dropped off at Ercan yesterday and the ticket/barrier system is still in place. Took a ticket drove round to departures and dropped off my friend. Spent a few minutes saying goodbye (and shedding a tear or two !!) then round to the exit barrier and out. 20 minutes and no charge. Much better than Stansted !!!
It seems to me to be more organised with the ticket/barrier system - no double parking and blocking the road at Departure/Arrivals.

I'm merely relaying what's in the report ... and there it does quite clearly write that the new system "bugünden itibaren geçerli olacak" ... the "bugün" of course being the "bugün" of yesterday Maybe in the report they should have written "yarından" not "bugünden" ... we'll see ...

Shouldn't worry too much about the car parking facilities it's the lack of airport security that concerns me-a terrorist if inclined ,would have a field day,

What evidence is there that airport security is effective in preventing terrorism? None that I can see... I think it's a delusion aimed at mugs like us to make us feel safe when in reality it's all just smoke and mirrors as nothing can prevent an attack.

We have a long way to go to catch up with the rest of the world, and in the main we are doing o.K, but my problems are personal. I do't mind getting a ticket etc, and I have no objection to going to a hut and paying etc, etc, but the problem is the handicapped facilities. No where to sit at the arrivals unles syou go to the café at the end.l Too far to walk. No wheelchair means discomfort. And of ocurse, when we said goodbye to our son, it means that I had to get the car, pay, go out, get a ticket to come in, leaving Alan with nowhere to sit etc. I love what Larnaca is doing, but I always fly Ercan (when I can). But hopefully they will catch up. As to security, all those machines? No taking shoes off etc, (for which I am grateful) but I would not know how effective that was to sotp a terrorist. I assume people know what one would need in one's luggage to make up a bomb and could spot it at once! But for a small nation, I think we are getting there.
And good to know that the new management IS listening to the public! I did not complain , but obviously others expressed their feeling,s and the Management have (or will when they get around to it) changed the system.

So would you rather go back to the days of handing in your hold baggage then going through departures and wandering around the mountain of luggage on the concrete so you can identify your bags before they and you are allowed on the plane? Followed up with the wait in the hot cabin whilst the names and people are counted to make sure they have the right number of people on the aircraft before it can take off?

Ah the good old days of the cattle shed at Ercan when flying was an adventure and not just a chore!!!!!
No matter how hard the past, you can always begin again.

But Marion, regardless of whether or not the barrier/ticket system is in place, you would have driven the same route ... and collecting-the ticket/inserting-the-ticket should have only added at most 30 seconds to the procedure.

According to my father-in-law, who dropped off a friend this morning, now the barrier/ticket system, rightly or wrongly, is indeed no longer in place. It would seem that either Serhat Özçelik or haberkktc were a day premature in the date given for the removal of the ticket system.
