Most people wont know that Daikin, possibly the premier air conditioning manufacturer in the world, now owns Airfel, a little known Turkish a/c manufacturer.
Daikin produces top-end equipment but not a budget range, whereas Airfel produce budget priced equipment.
My take on this is the same as when Volkswagen bought Skoda.
If anyone wants any more details on Airfel, please contact me.

Re: Daikin owns Airfel
I agree with you Vaughan, and in all the research I have done online on air con,the same firms keep popping up - Daikin always seem to be top,but LG,Hitachi, and Samsung always alternately seem a close second.
I then noticed that Arcelic (Turkish company) have built a huge air con factory in Turkey in a joint venture with LG.
Hearing what you say about the Skoda /VW connection,(which I agree with totally),Does that now make Arcelik air con worth buying on the basis that you are getting LG,but with an Arcelik label?
Also,I might be wrong but I believe Turkish goods attract less taxes than those from Japan?
I would be interested for your take on this Vaughan,as a highly regarded local Aircon guru.

Can't really comment on the LG/Arcelik tie-up, except to say it can only benefit both parties.Philoz wrote:I agree with you Vaughan, and in all the research I have done online on air con,the same firms keep popping up - Daikin always seem to be top,but LG,Hitachi, and Samsung always alternately seem a close second.

One of the reasons Daikin bought Airfel out is so they could export components from Japan to Turkey for final assembly there, effectively making them "Made in Turkey". Daikin already uses Belgium as its EU hub and I guess Turkey will become the non-EU hub. It is QC by Japanese management that determines the quality of Airfel.
