could anyone tell me please whether i can get sterling from my visa account either in a bank or cash machine. thanks for any responses

you can get it out of the machine at HSBC

Yes best to draw sterling out and convert to TL - also Garanti Bank also allow you to withdraw sterling

You can also get cash from your card in the money exchange offices but they charge 3%

New Garanti ATM's seem to be sprouting up, a new one in Alsancak is the latest I've seen. I don't know whether they are all filled with GBP, Dollars and Euros yet like the Girne ones, as I haven't tried all of them yet. At 3.63Lira to GBP (today) it really does pay to draw out the GBP and then convert. Over the course of a year, you save a small fortune.

When heading to Girne from Lapta there's a garage on the right hand side past Ileli and Srarling they have an ATM on the right hand side of the forecourt, I've been using it for about a month to draw GBP.

Stevied is right about the new Garanti ATM at the Garage but as yet I haven't been to see if it doles out GBP like the Garanti in Girne.

Yes, the Alsancak machine gives GBP, but it was out of action when I went yesterday so still had the hike to HSBC!

Machine in garage next to Ilelis is working today. There was a red bollard in front of it so I suspect it has only recently been repaired. Paid me in twenties but it was straight down to the exchange so I didn't mind.
Can't be long before someone uses a mechanical digger!!!!

You can also draw sterling from the atm at the Lemar supermarket in Girne. That's the one which used to be ASTRO. Nearly always works ok.
