Any alternative to Hammerite for iron railings, as it does not seem to last too well.

Agree with you Paddywack, so expensive but doesn't seem to stand up to weather conditions in Cyprus.

Trimetal from Marshals is the Dutch version of of Hammerite it comes in a range of different textures and it is cheaper, just go and ask Tyif and he will give you all the info.
One thing to remember is because of our climate no paint will withstand the heat of our summers, and as you will have noticed, this year the heat has come early

In my opinion: You need to apply paint when it is cool as in the heat the paint quickly thickens and makes it difficult to apply. Do not fall into the trap of thinning it with thinners as it will not have the properties needed. You will also be better pouring into another receptacle rather that applying from the tin.

I painted some of my railings five or six years ago with Hammerite they still look good. However when you read the instructions on the tin it will say only apply between certain temperatures, also if applying two coats ( recommended )
you will need to put the second coat on within eight hours or leave it for two weeks before applying second coat.
These were the instructions five or six years ago I don't have a tin to hand to know whether these instructions are still
Correct.
