I have just heard the most beautiful call to prayer from the mosque in Alsancak and I can say that even though I am Christian it was wonderful and meaningful - it reminded me yet again how happy I am to be part of this culture and environment. It just sounded so peaceful ,eloquent and echoed so beautifully.
I hope some of you shared it too.
Thank you North Cyprus

Yes-it's lovely!
Although I can't really hear it from here in the UK I can close my eyes and hear it in my mind.
I've always loved to hear the Ezan (to give it it's proper name) echoing across the various neighbourhoods I've lived in in the TRNC and Turkey.

Thanks Rosehillgirl - it just sounded different tonight and at a different time -- Maybe as its Ramadan/Ramazan here just now.
I should have said in my post how different it was compared to the usual call.

After 10 years of listening to the Ezan I still find it totally mystical . If you are ever in Lefkosa in the late afternoon when the traffic noise is dying down you can hear the call coming at you in stereo from dozens of mosques and it makes the hair at the back of my neck stand up.
