Re: Spider Spider.
This Spider has been in our garden for well over two weeks now, it's web is fantastic and bloody strong as it has withstood the high winds. But we would like to know what it is. Trawled through all the spider ID sites but can't find this little twerp.

Re: Spider Spider.
Just Googled it (Cyprus Tarantula), certainly looks like it. It says it is harmless, but I wouldn't be around long enough to find out.Yes also known as Wolf spider.

It looks like Araneus diadematus more than anything, aka 'orb web spider' aka 'garden orb spider'.

Hi Kbasat. Yes i think you could be right here. Anyway it seems very happy in our garden. We swat flies and throw them on the middle of the web. Maybe that's is why it's happy as it just sits there and we feed it. And of course there is an endless supply of flies.

Re: Spider Spider.
Wolf spiders stay in dark spaces, don't create webs like the one in the photo. And anyway, wolf spiders are quite harmless, timid, just scoop into a glass and take outside if you find them indoors and don't like them in the house. They eat mosquitoes and flies so are quite eco-friendly.

Re: Spider Spider.
I agree with kbasat. The head, thorax and abdomen in the original photo bare no resemblance to the drawing of the wolf spider, but are virtually identical to the kb photo. As you're feeding it I suspect you're going to be living with it for some time, why would it want to go anywhere else??

Just pick it up and give it a love.
