Hi all,
im moving over to trnc later this year.
My current mobile is dying! Should I buy a new one here and get it chipped on arrival or should I just buy one when I get there?
any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Sandra x

Personally would purchase the phone In the UK and get the chip here. Either using an iPhone or ordinary one.

Re: advice on mobile phones
We use a smart phone in TRNC with such as viber or what's app which give free calls and messages to other phones that have the apps when you are on wifi.
If you have a O2 number then O2 has something called TU GO which again over wifi is free so calling or texting uk is free.
Great tip ...... We found out last trip that if you put your smart phone into flight mode and then turn the wifi back on you still receive all calls and texts when you are in a wifi zone but the best thing is you can't accidentally answer a call from uk which costs you or reply to a text out of habit which again costs.
So that phone is not on contract just pay and go which we can top up online so no ties and just occasionally used when we travel back to uk as all other use in TRNC is over wifi and free. Also all mail and Internet surfing is over wifi so free as well
We also have a basic phone with a Turkcell sim in it which I have added all the local numbers restaurants etc etc
Works for us all as our friends in uk use our uk number new friends in Trnc we meet for a drink lol

Re: advice on mobile phones
When choosing between networks here find out what most of your pals are using as cross-network calls are charged differently to ones on the same network.. e.g. if all your friends use Turkcell I'd say use that network as Telsim will cost more and vice versa....

Mint, can you call anywhere in the world for free, or just UK numbers?
