Boycott Israeli products ?

Should Cyprus consider doing something like this? Israel must FREE the Palestinians and let them live normal lives not cooped up like chickens in a confined space! Let them have normal fishing limits, not confined to fishing close to the sea shores! Until they treat the Palestinians like human beings, there will be no ceasefire, both sides must ceasefire for the dreadful killings to stop. I think Israel has behaved really badly towards their neighbours. Time for changes, NOW and everyone can help.
How does everyone else feel?

Maldives to boycott Israeli products
http://www.sun.mv

July 21, 2014
Government has said today that three agreements between Maldives and the State of Israel have been dissolved and that discussions are ongoing to prohibit the import of Israeli products to Maldives.

Speaking at a press conference today, Minister at the President’s Office Mohamed Hussain Shareef said that Israeli goods consists of a small percentage of imports to the Maldives and that Maldives will reject investors from Israel in the future.

Minister of Foreign Affairs Dunya Maumoon said at the press conference today that three agreements signed with the Israeli government during former president Mohamed Nasheed’s Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) administration have now been dissolved.

She also noted the international condemnation of recent Israeli aggression in Gaza and the increase in calls for a boycott of Israeli products by a number of other countries.

Don't think Isreal gives a hoot about what a place like Cyprus does, it's major trading partner is the USA, and they will support Isreal all the way, things will escalate Hamas has been well prepared for Isreal to put boots on the ground, jihadis are gathering in Egypt and Lebanon no doubt they will be entering the fray soon, some say it could be the start of WW3. It all follows the predictions of the blood red moons and Nostrodamus.
But hey ho the suns out and the beers cold so who gives a hoot

Whilst I agree that the treatment of the Palestinians is not acceptable, I really don't think that sanctions on Israeli products are likely to work. Years ago, when there were sanctions on South African produce, most of it found it's way to other countries where it was re-exported as produce of that country. South African fruit, for instance, was going via Israel and a lot of wine was going, in bulk, to Bulgaria where it was bottled and sold on as Bulgarian. This, I'm afraid, would happen again as there are plenty of countries who would be more than willing to do this for money!

Why not canvass support for Hamas to stop the illegal rocket attacks on Israeli civilians? Then the IDF would depart.

Further, could the TRNC actually achieve anything by such a measure given the huge financial investment already made here by Israel - Karpas Marina et al? Plus the fact USA/Europe/Turkey wants the Israeli fuel flowing via Turkey to lessen the dependency on Russia for such a supply. Big boys, big toys at play here!

If a bully slaps your face is it reasonable to machine gun his whole family (including small children) to ensure it doesn't happen again?

That is a very good question, and I can see exactly where you are coming from. To put your point into context, the bully next door in the grotty council ghetto shouldn't throw stones at your nice private house, even though they can't get past the high fence. If he does you are perfectly justified in firebombing his hovel and killing all his children.......That'll learn him!

Of course having one of the world's most sophisticated military machines may give you other options.

Council ghetto vs. very nice houses - do I detect you may be biased? Surely after a while, if the stones don't reach the target or have any affect, is there a point in keep throwing them, especially when most people would like to see a ceasefire, or has only one side to cease firing?

Just an analogy Elaine.

Israel lost no one to the missiles which were easily defeated by it's anti missile shield, and only lost troops when they blundered into Gaza. I believe Israel is perfectly justified in defending it's borders, but not by any means.

And as Israel becomes a pariah state, it would appear that much of the world agrees.

You are very miss led.
These young children are NOT throwing stones at nice houses they are being shelled by a Army who have no regard for any form of life only Jewish.
I hope one day these people are brought to justice as was the Germans after the war.

Think you guys are missing the point here, rockets fired into Isreal by Hamas has been done to get a reaction, that being to draw Isreal into a ground war, Hamas has now achieved that and are no doubt well prepared, escalation is the name of the Hamas game from now on, the indiscriminate slaughter of civilians by the IDF is fuelling the fire, support for Hamas throughout the Middle East is gaining ground, don't be surprised if Israel's border with Lebanon is the next confrontation hot spot, with Uncle Sam then sticking his nose in before the end of the year.
The good news is I'm now doing conversions on pool plant rooms to fully equipped neuclear bunkers deposits now being taken,
Have a nice day.

Whatever the rights and wrongs of this war, and it is a war with historically complicated origins, the central issue is that innocent civilians including children on both sides are being killed and injured.
There are plenty of petitions by ordinary people on the web campaigning for an end to this killing and maiming of innocents. If you'd like to help and try to stop this slaughter please sign one.

It only takes a few just people to do nothing for evil to flourish.

Heard on the news just now that Hamas do not want to extend the Ceasefire..hope its wrong.

Hamas and North Korea in secret arms deal

Exclusive: Hamas has paid North Korea for missiles and communications equipment in arms deal worth hundreds of thousands of dollars

7:00PM BST 26 Jul 2014

Hamas militants are attempting to negotiate a new arms deal with North Korea for missiles and communications equipment that will allow them to maintain their offensive against Israel, according to Western security sources.

Security officials say the deal between Hamas and North Korea is worth hundreds of thousands of dollars and is being handled by a Lebanese-based trading company with close ties to the militant Palestinian organisation based in east Beirut.

Hamas officials are believed to have already made an initial cash down payment to secure the deal, and are now hoping that North Korea will soon begin shipping extra supplies of weapons to Gaza.

“Hamas is looking for ways to replenish its stocks of missiles because of the large numbers it has fired at Israel in recent weeks,” explained a security official. “North Korea is an obvious place to seek supplies because Pyongyang already has close ties with a number of militant Islamist groups in the Middle East.”

Using intermediaries based in Lebanon, Hamas officials are said to be intensifying their efforts to sign a new agreement with Pyongyang to provide hundreds of missiles together with communications equipment that will improve the ability of Hamas fighters to coordinate operations against Israeli.

And Israel will get a lot of it's weapons from the USA, they all have to come from somewhere. The American weapons are evidently more efficient at killing people.

Slightly off-topic, but no doubt relevant ...Lyce Doucet is presenting a programme on BBC2 this evening showing the affects on children in war-torn Syria. It will no doubt be heartbreaking to watch as just seeing a snippet was hurtful. I feel so much for the women and children in situations like this, no matter what their country or religion..they have to try to hold together families, old and young, feed and cloth them as best they can with turmoil around them.

Going right back to the beginning! Boycotting goods, just doesn't work. Many moons ago there was a plan to boycott South African goods. That didn't have any effect. Then it was boycotting champagne, that didn't work. The supermarkets and dealers always find a way around the problem every time. And in any case, in the South African situation the only people who suffered were the poor benighted fruit pickers and such like, the very people who were suffering in the first place.

Sophie, Unfortunately individuals have few other options available to them and boycotts have been very successful in the past. It would of course be better if we could convince our governments to stop supporting Israel in the United Nations etc and indeed financially. Given the number of innocents being slaughtered I would have expected NATO to, as a minimum, introduce one of their "no fly zones" to provide some protection but alas the civilians are only Palestinians and the bombers are Israeli so maybe not.

Is there maybe something we could boycott to help the innocent people, especially children, in Syria and Iraq? After watching the programme on BBC2 last night showing children caught up in the turmoil, surely we could boycott some products to help their cause?

Hi Retired, Saudi Arabia are currently the big funders of the Islamic state, Qatar and Turkey (plus the usual suspects) have been big supporters of some of the other Islamic groups involved in the terror. Maybe you could encourage your country to stop supplying arms to some of these regimes, particularly Saudi. I am sure though that a simple internet search would give you some ideas on how to help.

There is a great amount of Israeli investment in Cyprus, in land and building.
War, and it is an ongoing one, between the Palestinians and Israelis is a horrible thing. Innocent people, whether they are children or adults get caught up in it through no fault of their own. However building walls and not integrating nationalities and religions causes problems like this. Cyprus was a classic example. At long last things are changing, with more integration and less religious controversial confrontation preaching. However greed is human nature and this is something that can never be accounted for.
