A question for computer techies.....

Bought a memory stick some time ago ( shop here closed now) and it was a 2gb Kingston data traveler stick.
Previously had some odd files loaded which I now deleted as I wanted to save 2 video recordings from a VCR.

Successfully loaded on to my laptop , no probs. The size of the 2 files combined was 1.91 gb but my computer is telling me that the memory available is only 1.85gb......so won`t take both of them.

Is this a common thing that the memory is not as advertised or does the stick retain some old memory????

Hi LooseBoots

Unfortunately most storage devices are like this where they do not quite have the capacity they say, they are always just below what is specified. There will also be a software program on there that helps it operate and this also takes some of the storage space.

Hope this helps
Graeme

Thanks, yes I thought as much.

Where is the best place in TRNC to buy memory sticks?

If you are not in a desperate hurry then buy them off eBay and have them posted out here, much cheaper and better choice!

Longer answer elsewhere , but 2GB(nominally 2,000,000,000 bytes)/1024/1024/1024 = 1.86GB, while 1.91GB file = 2,050,846,883 bytes....
