If you are flying to the North in the next two weeks would you be kind enough to bring me a pair of support tights for a family member who is flying on the 26th August she has a health issue and is quite desperate .

Don't know if this will help but I have seen the support tights and flight socks in the Ezcane here in the North.

Hi there, I apologise for replying in advance, but thought I'd give some information on flight socks. \My husband had DVT last year, it was cleared after about 6 months, but this year we flew to SA which was obviously a long flight. We bought flight socks which he wore during the flight, but unfortunately he contracted DVT again which delayed our flights back for a further 3 weeks until the level was safe enough to fly. That was 5 months ago and he's still having treatment, and any further flights are dangerous. The doctor in SA explained that the flight socks were ok for keeping swelling down in the legs, but would not have impact if DVT was contracted. So I do apologise for intruding on your thread, but am just informing you of what happened to us just in case your friend has any relevant health problems; if so perhaps a doctor should be consulted.

Without being a prophet of doom, the experience of my husband was that three years running , wearing stockings etc, he got a DVT (this was Australia/Cyprus/'Australia. Twice he had the DVT when in Australia, and the third was in Cyprus. And we are still here. He was told not to fly again, although he does the odd trip to U.K by injections before and after flying to bring his blood down to a water consistency. So same story as Helendj.

But of course, if a Doctor has said these must be worn, then one must obey the doctor. my husband couldn't get them on any more - at least not those of the tightness he was given after the first DVT.

There are two very different schools of thought about these stockings - from definite yes topositive no. So, as I said, if obeying doctor's orders that is one thing, but to think that it is the only thing to do is another.

You can buy support tights from the pharmacy on the main Catalkoy road just beyond Supreme supermarket. They have a selection of styles and sizes.
