All credit to the lady-I just hopes she does a bit better than the first female British Navy Sea Captain.

but nobody knows exactly the ins and outs of that one( sea captain) and by the way why would the woman take all of the blame ( apart from rank)

Anyway, brilliant for her and also a GREAT achievement for the appointment of a woman - but it could have been a man as long as they had the same skill set - would have been taxing for both!

One of ours sons Best Man held this position about 8 years ago. He loved it here and so did 99 percent of the men. Virtually nothing to do, bit of a holiday really. All at tax payers expense. The only criticism at the time was the mens description of Ledra Palace "a cockroach encrusted, rat hole" (Actually it was slightly different to that but message will be automatically censored!!) I gather the UN then spent a considerable amount of cash to upgrade it.

What happened to the un-named 3rd in command? I always thought it took two to constitute an affair!!!

Probably deserve a cushy posting after Afghanistan where most come from ,or don,t you agree? While the world is taken in by the Greeks and GC,s this will remain. I am sure a lot of the guys are fed up with returning here each time and doing nothing , I know mine was.

One of ours sons Best Man held this position about 8 years ago.

The best man mentioned was more likely to be the commanding officer of the British contingent who have the pleasure to live in Ledra Palace.
The new commander of the UN does not opparate from Ledra palace Her office will be in HQ UNFICYP which is in the old International airport Nicosia.
I served 3 years in as the catering Warrant Officer for the UN at HQ UNFICYP.
The out going commander was a member of the International golf club in the UN HQ protected area who I had the pleasure to play golf with.
It is not a holiday any more as the number of British Forces have been reduced by two thirds, albeit they normally only work till 13.30 due to the summer heat, in winter this is 16.30.
