444 0 444 Nuisance Calls

I am currently getting 3 to 4 calls a day from this number. I do not answer them as I am sure it is a scam.

I asked Mr Google who suggested it was Yapi Kredi phone banking!! There were also warnings not to call it back due to the inflated call charges levied!

If anyone has a suggestion as to how to stop these calls I'm all ears!!!

How about contacting your service provider, they may be able to help you.

Thanks Scoobydoo.

Isn't it amazing how a brief discussion can alter your thought process!
My service provider may well be be able to block the calls, then I think perhaps I can block them myself.
Asked Mr Google again and, hey presto, no problem! 4440444 is now blocked for good.

Thanks for the shove in the right direction!

I have also had calls from two numbers, one started with 020, and the other I cannot remember. Up until now we have been blissfully unexposed to nuisance and fraudulent calls from premium lines in this country, but it had to come sooner or later. Everyone must be aware, particularly if they have been over here a long time and don't know what goes on in the big bad wide world, never to call a "missed call" back if you don't recognise the number, and preferably don't even answer a number that you don't recognise.

Gavin, what did you Google? How to block an unwanted caller?

So many of these damned calls here in Germany. The are "from" computer-generated numbers made to look genuine, some even pretending to be international calls, for instance I received one the other day purporting to be from Turkey.

If you answer, they are all similar. "You entered a competition (you didn't!), and you have won a major prize".

"Oh good, what is it?"

"A car. Please can we have your bank account details?".

"Bog off!"

I worked for BT UK for 28 years. As you say, never call the number back. I am not sure if this would work here, but we used to advise, to answer silently, leave the call connected and walk away,As they would be paying for the call! That was in the good old days before modern technology, Would the recipient be paying for some of that call here?

444 numbers here are new numbers for business these have replaced 815 etc making more 815 numbers etc available for the private sector. they are not premium numbers they cost the same as any normal landline here. i believe 020 is an Istanbul number. however if you are inundated with continual calls from a business here either block or report to the company.

hope this eases your worry over dubious numbers

No problem PapaBravo.

On the iPhone 4 it's very easy. Go to phone - recents - tap the "i" icon to the right of the number in question, scroll down the specific number page and tap "block number"

Hope this helps.
