Car Insurance to drive in the South
Car Insurance ... Is there a way /company I can get to insure me to drive both sides of the Border? I was informed you can get fully comprehensive insurance cover this side that does it. I have breakdown cover from this side that will assist me in the South but not Insurance. Also, is it true that, if you do not have your 'Residency' up to date you are not covered by the third party Insurance you buy at the Border to cover for driving in the South? We are both over 60 and haven't bothered with renewing our 'Residency' and often cross the Border without any problems.

I have fully comprehensive insurance that covers me over the south, however you still have to buy the 3rd party insurance at the border.

As the South does not recognise the TRNC government they are not in the least bit interested as to whether you have residency or not. However you need a european or international driving licence as they will only accept TRNC licences from Cypriots.

Comprehensive insurance policies issued on either side of the divide cover you for the whole island but you still need to buy the 3rd party insurance at the border. You should be aware however that, if you have an accident your car will need to be recovered to whichever side has issued the insurance, for repairs. As Ozankoys has rightly said, the GCs have no interest at all in whether you have residency here.
