Road Fund Licence Fees - Increase or Scam ?

The Wildebeest (bless her) told me to get my lazy butt down to the Tax office and renew the road fund licence for our aged "Bitsofmitchie". As the payment last year was just over 800 TL I clutched that sum in my fist, anticipating a discount for the vehicle being yet another year older. The document was produced in faded ink and the fee was 962 TL. Have I missed an announcement in the last year of a swingeing increase or is it a scam ? Has anyone ever seen published details of the rules from which their complicated calculations are arrived at ? The Wildebeest said that in my case it must have been calculated by my degree of ever increasing ugliness. That is when the fight started !

From 800 to 962 is a 20% increase. I am wondering whether you should have just asked for the cost of taxing it first (keeping your wallet out of sight)

This is something which confounds me about TRNC - the rises do not seem to be published and appear to be quite random.

Can anyone seriously answer this question please. Ours is due for renewal in August this is a huge rise.

Perhaps we should buy a mini?

lets be honest how could you say its scam you get a receipt which is from a government department i renewed mine last month and mine had gone up i have to say i was only expecting 10% increase

Andrew, apart from my flippant comments, I am making the point that a receipt for monies paid is meaningless unless I have acccess to the rules to consider whether or not the calculations made were accurate, hence I asked if anyone has any knowledge of these. For example, recently the Inland revenue took £1080 from me which was an over charge but I can rectify this because the rules and tax scales are available for all to see.

Just paid our road tax and it had gone up 12%. Now 1891 TL for a K Reg Hyundai Santa Fe. OUCH

Someone told me that if you have incurred a speeding fine whether its been paid or not they surcharge the Road Tax12%.

Doing mine anytime now. Am hoping for a discount this time as car now over 10 yrs old. Hope springs eternal....

Just taxed my 11 yr old Renault Clio,petrol driven 104TL. Was so surprised had to check it was for 12 mths .
