Help Needed - Briggs & Stratton Generator
I have a B&S Vanguard genny, model no 245437, it is named as a Vanguard 13Hp and has both pull and electric starts.
Two years ago the battery died and I never bothered to replace it - just took it off and disconnected the RED lead from the genny and coiled both the red (live) and black (earth) leads together.
Now as I get older I want to re-connect the red lead from the battery (new one) back onto the genny - PROBLEM - I have no idea where to re-connect the red lead to!!!
If anyone out there has the same model genny can you please have a look and let me know where the red lead goes to from the battery to ??????
Many, many thanks if anyone can help.

Re: Help Needed - Briggs & Stratton Generator
The red lead should go to the starter solenoid.

If you haven't solved the problem, Ive got the same generator, but I cannot describe where the lead goes, but if you would like to either come and see or phone me, we live in Esentepe, 0533 882 1534, perhaps we could solve the problem.

Thanks rigsby, starter solenoid seems to be a small black lump on the side of what looks like the starter motor. If that is the gadget then it has two heavy red leads and one small yellow lead already attached to it. Can not see any spare nut/washer on these leads or anywhere else. Wish I had marked it when I took it off now!!!!

Waddo,The small black thing attached to the starter is the solenoid. Is there room on the solenoid post to put anothere red wire?ie;from battery. The yellow wire comes from the starter switch.Good Luck.If you cant sort it,take it to Charley the motorbike man in Girne.

Hi Rigsby, the solenoid has two red leads - one each on seperate posts - either one has enough room to take the red wire from the battery! Think it will be trial and "Bang" error from here on but will give it a shot, nothing to lose. Many thanks for help.

Waddo,Trace the one red wire to the alternator and put the battery red lead on the other terminal.

Re: Help Needed - Briggs & Stratton Generator
Right, having proven to be stupid in the past, I have now proven I am also stupid AND color blind! There is an Orange lead that comes from the ignition switch to the solenoid. There is a heavy red lead that comes from the solenoid to (what I presume to be) the starter motor. There is a thin yellow lead that comes from the ignition switch to the solenoid. All of these leads, apart from the yellow one - regardless of color - terminate on either individual posts or screws. The yellow from the ignition terminates on the solenoid on a spade connector - so that can't be the one I need to use.
I think the solution is to take the red (battery) lead and connect it - at the solenoid - to the same post that the orange lead from the ignition switch terminates! Wish I had paid more attention in Ground Electrics during training in 1963, I might have remembered then - lol. Thanks again.
