Is there a prize?
It there a prize for the ugliest/largest and most inappropriate building in Northern Cyprus? There appears to be a competition to construct the building that will most successfully block views of the beautiful scenery people come here to enjoy and destroy any attempt to blend with the scenery, history and culture of the country. Multi storey flats blocking out the mountains, hotels covering acres of country and/or denying access to beaches, rows of identical concrete buildings swamping villages, incredibly kitch casinos. Now Supermarkets seem to be entering the fray - a new one of incredible ugliness on the road to Bellapaise , within metres of two existing, and I am told part of a French chain?
Who is going to use all these building, and how long before it is standing room only here?
What is your nomination for the worst buildng?

The 10/11 storey block of flats being constructed that you can see as you approach the small roundabout after passing the Digiturk offices. I think they are in Dogankoy. But everything will have to go some if they are to rival the already built Cratos Hotel. The Planners and architects should have been strangled at birth for allowing that monstrosity to be spawned.!! (Money talks I guess)

The new hotel emerging at Lara Beach near the power station makes the Cratos look beautiful IMHO

Definately the hotel construction at Lara Beach - perfect prison block and a real blot on the landscape. It has ruined this beautiful natural location which used to be my favourite beach

Owl lady, the supermarket is on the left at the roundabout by the football pitch, I think it is starling.
Sophie, that block of flats was build by the last Mayor of Girne.

The FIFTEEN storey unfinished monstrosity (Ali's Folly) outside Bogaz will take some beating for sheer ugliness. To make you smile he is now advertising an even bigger and uglier monument to his ego closer to the sea. I think he likes starting things, but gets bored when the realities of finance kick in.

My vote still goes to the Crapos (sorry fingers slipped) Thought it was Cell Block H when it was being built. We were convinced it was a prison.

I call it Stalag 17. I don't find the new
Starlings too offensive, but some of the hotels which are meant to entice people to the beauty of the island - well, 'nuff said.

If the new Supermarket is a Starlings, then its less than half a mile from the one just up the Bellapais Road on the RHS. Surely they will be shooting themselves in the foot if they build another one that close.
Karmel, that explains everything then.

Anyone know why the Lara beach site is taking so long? The concrete structures have been up for some time now but it seems to be taling forever to complete.

Correctıon I was misinformed. It isnt going to be a Supermarket, it going to be the University of Nicosia - in Kyrenia? I wonder if they will have a Dept. of Architecture?

I was not refareing to the revamp of the old private school at the football pitch.
Starling have opened a shop at the island just before the football pitch, the new uni looks a mess, have been told they have bought the land opposite as well.

The part finished one just along from The Hut in Lapta isn't much better, a real eyesore with no chance of ever being finished.
