P.O Box Rental

Hello all,
Please would you let me know how to go about renting a P.O Box, and also is there a prefered post office for this service.

We live in Alsancak but on the Karaoglanoglu side of the town and our PO Box is in Karaoglanoglu. I don't like Alsancak PO nor most of the people in it, but the K. guys are lovely and very, very helpful. I suspect nowadays you might have to go to your "own" PO. When we first signed on we had to take contract to show where the property was plus a passport, plus 36tl for the year. 9 years later we have to pay 45tl. We have very few losses of postage and they safely look after packages for us.

Try your local post office and see if they have any vacancies! If they do, I am sure they will let you hav eone. We got ours in central Kyrenia because we had a flat there. However, we kept that post box as we did not want to change addresses, so, if you think you MIGHT move in the future, it might be an idea to try the C entral post oFFICE. I believe we pay 50tl a year - maybe it is mor ein town, but really costs nothing at all, does it! 1tl a week (ISH).

tHE PROBLEM WITH THE LARGER POST OFFICES IS THAT THEY SOMETIMES HAVE A WAITING List BUT I AM SURE A LITTLE WAIT WILL NOT BE TOO BAD. (sorry, caps stuck again).

Mine is in Girne 25tl per year.

Ozankoy 25tl but only delivered once a week!!! If you are lucky.

PO Boxes at Girne post office are only allocated in January each year, but you have to put your name on the waiting list.
The post office have to wait to see who does not pay their annual fee to see how many are free for re allocation.

We opted to go for one on the South side, top of Ledra Street so we can just walk across. Easy to do 26euro a year, cheaper and faster postage from the UK. If the Package is large you may have collect from parcel office in Stravolous, but reasonable size packages go to Ledra Street.

I must admit that the Lefkosa, Girne, Karaoglanoglu, time scale is pretty good, compared to some that I've heard of. I know a few people who choose to opt for south side boxes, but unless you have a need to receive post in less than a week UK - South, then I think having to purchase 25 Euro a month car insurance is a bit much.

Ooops, missed that bit, but its still easier to pull up outside Karaoglanoglu PO. when I'm passing, which is most days.

South side PO Box. 3 to 4 days from England and totally safe, even amazon will send to ours. Now all my Bithday and Christmas cards arrive.

We had been told we needed a South Cyprus address to get a PO box in Ledra St . Is that incorrect ?

You do not need an address in the South, they know straight away from your telephone no. that you are in the North, no problem.
