Threads moved to appropriate categories.

Post by Soner »

I have just moved a whole load of threads out of the General Forum into their appropriate categories - no doubt I will be bombarded with emails asking where these posts have gone, you should be able to find them if you know what the subject was. ie Dogs in Pets Section, Transfers in Travel Section, Event...in TRNC Events section, Advert in Business Section. Please create new threads in appropriate categories.

Thank you for your co-operation.

Like the above poster says........ So if someone askes for help on somthing like I did on my pool they have to put it in a section that will probably only get a couple of views sounds a bit daft to me. Sorry.

Some members view forum differently. Some may click on View new posts or View unread posts or View active topics. Those that just read General forum may be missing out on other things that may be interesting.

Soner ! A forum is a forum ! this is one way you can control people, and what they write, but a complete right as it is yours ! but think in some instances you are wrong, as some of the threads in wrong categories, were there for days until I put mine on the main forum just yesterday ! It was a test to which you responded very quickly ! and to my posts you always do as per a long while ago ! regards Barry

Nice one Soner , I'm tired of wading through canine related posts on the main forum-maybe a 'Dogs' section would work, mind you it might be better to make the main forum a 'Dogs' section judging by the number of lost/found/ abandoned/mistreated Doggy posts!
Then change the name from 'Kibkom' to 'Dogkom'!

Well, I never did!

( I did, actually )

In all the years, that I've been using Forums, I never noticed that little 'View unread posts' thingy...

How convenient!

I always assumed that most people start reading on the 'General' page, so that's where I usually post stuff that I want people to read - and I wouldn't post it if I didn't want them to read it ! - and then it magically moves to a more appropriate category after a few hours or days, when the elves or gremlins or whatever get to work on it

I also subscribe to Groucho's view, which is that posting comments on the 'general' page of a Forum is a bit like standing, having a natter at the bar of your favourite pub (except that you're not allowed to fight!) - people come up with all sorts of irrelevant stuff, most of which you just ignore (well, if Groucho posted it anyway) but every now and again, something grabs your attention, which it probably wouldn't get the chance to do, if you had to actually search for it...

Actually, it would be good to have a bit of Forum software that looked for keywords in posts, and then moved 'em to the correct place after a pre-defined period - at least we would know that there was a chance of someone actually reading the drivel that we write before it got consigned to Room 101 or whatever...

Anyway, apologies to the Elves - or Soner as he is more usually known - and thank you for being so tolerant and helpful and everything.

Oh, I feel sick now...

I guess I am a bit of a lazy reader. I always go straight to 'view new posts' as that way I can see what is new! Well, I guess that is obvious. But I like to be up to date and that for me is the only way to be so.

But if one doe snot do this, then for me threads get lost, but as I say, my system works for me, and I fully respect what Soner does. I think it works well as I never go to any particular category.

If things stay in a 'wrong' place that is just because Soner is getting on with the thousand and one other things he has to do and because those of us who are mo9derators are in pretty much the same position. I know tha tSoner is too nice to have different laws for different people.laces./categorie,s but it is just a question of time and availability to sort it all.

Barrysnakes...Coincidence. Barry I have nothing against you and will say in public.

To All Members...As Marion said, I have been really busy over the past year and have just changed things around to free some time so hope to spend more time moderating the forum.

The majority of threads moved were moved to the pets section and I have not yet finished what I had started yesterday.

We do have the Global Sticky option which does not cost much to get your messages across...why not try it, it will help towards the upkeep of the forum as well as generating more money for TRNC charities.

I've just discovered something else which may be of interest to others...

After you've clicked on 'View unread posts', and had a brief look at the subject titles of any new posts, you need to 'Mark them all as read', if you didn't want to bother opening them, so that they don't automatically appear next time you click on the 'View unread posts' link again.

To 'Mark them all as read', you would normally need to click on the KIBKOM FORUM Logo in the top left corner of the main page, and scroll down to the bottom of the FORUMS list (you can actually find the page here: http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/index.php ) and then click on the 'Mark forums read' link, so that the next time you click on 'View unread posts', all that you see is the very latest posts that you haven't read.

BUT !! - there's a quicker way!

Go to http://www.kibkomnorthcyprusforum.com/index.php & find the 'Mark forums read' link that I mentioned earlier... 'LEFT CLICK and DRAG it' onto your Bookmarks bar at the top, and you've got an instant way to clear all the posts that you're not bothered about - just click on the new icon that you've created on the Bookmarks toolbar, and the next time that you click on 'View unread posts', you only see the new ones!

Ta Da!

Thanks Keithcaley, I have mentioned this several times previously, but guess it is again time to update Newbies with some of the forum functions, ie change of colour, adding avatar etc... Also, the FAQ link above may be useful too. Will post when I get some time this week.

As every subject on the General Forum page is suitable to be placed into an appropriate category why not just do away with that page and just have View Active Topics as the main page. The active topics will always be at the top and the ones not commented on will slowly work there way to the bottom.Just a thought.

Did cross my mind Lottidotti, but when it comes to major change - what can I say.

Thanks Barrysnakes, I am aware and it takes time to go through all posts. I will make this a Global and when I have more time I will be continually be moving posts.

Seem to be an awful lot of 'cars for sale' ads recently, is there a reason for this? By that I mean, is there upcoming legislation or a bigger picture thing going on?

Its hardly fair that you keep some posts on the general forum when they are clearly advertising an event or a rental property. If you move some, you need to make it fair and move all. Its also not right that some of the forums can be viewed offline, but others only when your signed in?

Cornerhouse,
As mentioned I will be moderating more and will move threads regularly once I have caught up with other work. Life would be easier if members just posted in the correct sections. Newbies usually post their first thread in General section - this is quite understandable.

As for some sections only viewable once logged in, this was an experiment on my part which seems to be working the way I thought it would - more visitors are registering and becoming active on the forum.

Hi Soner,

I am not the best looker so to speak ! But is there a particular section purely for Charities and Charity Fundraising events ?

If I have missed something please advise me where one should post for such a thing and if there is no section for this type of classification would it be possible to have a thread based on the above question ?

Thank You,

Steph
