Dog missing from KAR

Some despicable people came up to the rescue centre last night and let out some of the dogs. All are accounted for except one. Coco, a small brown and white pointer is missing and we fear that she might have been stolen. She is due to go to England shortly and her new owner is devastated. If anyone knows where this dog is then a reward has been offered for her safe return. She has some large scars on her side where she was attacked by some other dogs so she is easily recognizable. Please telephone us on 0533 869 4098 or 0533 863 1950 if you find her.

Absolutely despicable behaviour! Cannot write the words I want to as I would get BBB banned from the forum. Thankfully you got back all but one, poor thing! Will ask people to keep a look out on the mountain road. Hopefully the dog will be found and returned to safety.

Phew. I would like to 'murder' thoughtless, uncaring people like that. One can hardly imagine it is a childish prank, as it takes determination and stamina to get to Arapkoy centre. Whny oh why would anyone want to do that and to what end. I do so hope the dog is found. Could it have go tlost in the mountains? Ye,s I know you are all looking, but a headache I am sure none of you need at the time.

I have just picked this up from Hamish, but as someone involved with KAR I would like to add just how despicable and disgusted I feel about these people. I would also like to point out just how hard it is to run KAR. KAR IS open to abuse and ridicule from those who disagree with our policies and those who feel that it is easy and "why don't KAR do this" and "why don't KAR do that". KAR is a charity relying in public donations, there are still people in the TRNC who consider KAR is Government funded (KAR IS NOT) and we know more than anyone and any other organisation the way that animals are treated and considered, we also know the laws backwards and the way they are ignored, mostly by the officials who are supposed to adhere to them. We know that the powers that be tell people what they want to hear. Stealing from the Centre is just one of hundreds of problems that KAR face on a daily basis (most of which go un published). Why are people so shocked??

Here's pictures of Coco and you can see in one picture the scarring on her neck so easy to identify if seen.

Marion, a despicable 15 year old in the UK set fire to Manchester dogs home last week 70 dogs perished, more than 150 were luckily saved, they were moved to Cheshire dogs home but because they were unable to take them all volunteers were asked for to foster some of them, The M6 was gridlocked by traffic there was so many volunteers trying to get there. Donations amounted to £1.1/2 million in 48 hours. The 15 year old boy was arrested and released on bail, him and his family are now being protected costing us rate payers, I know what I would do with him, he was bitten by a dog that's his excuse!

We all know about the Manchester dogs home and tragic though it is, 2 wrongs do not make a right. There are some right barstewards here and KAR does the best it can to make the animals safe that are in it's care. There was case earlier this year when CCTV cameras were considered, but a decision was made against it, due to financial constraints. If there is anyone out there who would like to pay for the system, I'm sure that KAR would be more than grateful to accept the offer.

Maybe it would be a good idea if someone put on a fund raiser especially for CCTV cameras? Don't look at me! Seriously there are lots of bar s out there that arrange special event evneings with proceeds to charity. Wouldn't one of them start the ball rolling on this one. It sounds as though it could be needed !!!!

Or do what we did when living in Kent - have up a 'false'system. As the police said 'It acts as a deterrent'.

Owl Lady, perhaps we could arrange for you to go to the Centre someday and then you can see the problems KAR have with regard to entrance and exit. It's nothing like as straight forward as you might think. Remember it is adjacent to Forestry Commission land.

As it is in the middle of nowhere it must be one of the easiest of places to break into - or almost walk into. You could use a pneumatic drill or six and no one would hear but at least with CCTV cameras (if high enough not to get smashed) one could see who might have been prowling, and conversely it could be a great deterrent to nasty evil people who think they would never otherwise be found out.

Bother. Just did a post about CCTV and that **** error notice came up again and wiped it. Havent time to do it again, but if KAR are seriously considering CCTV please pm me and I will tell you of my experiences with setting up a system in the UK. Meanwhile dont forget it is dependent on electricity which with maintenance means an ongoing cost, not just that of installation, and a cut could mean someone having to re-set the whole system.

Hi Sophie. I have been up to the centre, but many years ago and cannot remember the exact layout. As Marion said, if there was a fund raising event specifically for money for CCTV cameras, I am sure it would be well supported. I don't think this is the first time dogs have been let out, is it?
Ragged Robin; As Soner explained,if you lose a message, arrow back and it will still be there somewhere!

Owl Lady: thanks for the advice, but I did and it didnt! Arrowing back eventually brings up an existing message , but it didnt bring back one written but unposted when the error notice came up when I clicked on "post"

Anyway it is probably a waste of time going into detail (particularly while I am struggling to treat a sick dog single handed ) but as I said above I have experience of CCTV (and have done a bit of updating on the internet this evening) and am convinced it is inappropriate both for KAR and the particular location (halfway up a mountain and subject to strong sunlight, thunder storms, heavy rain and strong winds)horrified it should be considered with all the calls they already have on limited resources of volunteers and money, and other Charities in dire need of funding.
cctv is not just an initial outlay - it is an ongoing expense - and unless someone is prepared to watch all the hours the site is unmanned, all you will get it a picture of someone - probably in camouflage - possibly two days later if it happens on a weekend . How much priority are the Police here going to give that for a few dogs going stray! (and before anyone starts, its not that I am not sorry about the dogs, and I feel particularly for the people who planned to adopt the missing dog, but one has to be realistic)

As for mock cameras, well maybe some of the hunters would appreciate the target practice! Anyone who watches films or TV or reads books knows about those!

Anyone really interested and considering it seriously, I will be glad to explain the problems - including expertise in placing the cameras.

No Owl lady there has been no sign of Coco . The family are really distraught. KAR staff and volunteers have been out looking and everyone is keeping a look out. It is such a shame as Coco had a lovely new life waiting for her. Fingers (and paws) crossed she will be "returned" or found.
Thank you everyone who is helping to look for her - please keep searching.
