Would be wise to take a photo copy of your passport. Also insurance/mot/tax plus the kitchen sink because at some stage they will be asking to see that, good luck please let us all know how you got on.

I sold my car recently and the lady who bought it put her daughter onto it, and all they needed was a photocopy of her passport, and it was only 135tl, good luck.

Re: Adding spouse name to log book
Went to do this yesterday at Lefkosa managed to locate the one guy who spoke English who was very helpful. The cost was going to be 335tl each & you need log book, mot, tax disc, copy of passport & copy of muhtar's letter plus a 10 tl stamp.
However when we explained why we were doing this he said it is much more complicated to sort out if the vehicle is in joint names & one spouse dies than if it is in the dead spouse's name there is more paperwork to do apparently. He did say to make sure the insurance certificate is in joint names though.
Needless to say we did not go ahead as normal here you receive conflicting advice from different people.

Finding it difficult to understand the reasoning for adding another name to the log book....ok when first buying though.
Could somebody please advise why.

Re: Adding spouse name to log book
Correct me if I am wrong but TRNC law states that when a person dies their car cannot be driven by anyone (including their spouse) until probate has been granted. There have been cases reported where the police have seized the deceased's car so the BRS have advised couples to put the log books in joint names.

Re: Adding spouse name to log book
From the horses mouth, MINE When my husband died, his name only was on the log book. As I didn't drive I am not sure about the legality of me driving. I definitely could not sell it until it went through probate!!! Check with your solicitor, but it was mine who did the probate etc. I was advised it could take 18 months to 2 years!, only took 8 months.

The above is correct. It has just happened to someone that I know.

Re: Adding spouse name to log book
Far simpler to get divorced in my opinion.
(Ironic comment based on how unnecessarily complicated getting simple things done here-before anyone has a go at me-which I am used to anyway)
