Does anyone know if the cinema next to the lemar ever shows english films?
I have had conflicting answers and when we took the children there, the staff (who spoke very little english) said all the films were in Turkish. Is this always the case?

If so, does anyone know the times or website of the cinema in Lefkosa please?

Thankyou

The website is here http://www.sinemalar.com/sinemasalonu/4 ... r-cineplex

They do show films in English with Turkish subtitles as Suel5 says, if you look at the times for 'The boxtrolls' it says Turkce which means it will be in Turkish - the other film 'The Equaliser' doesn't show a language so I assume(!) that it is in original language with Turkish subtitles. How you check if you can't speak Turkish may be difficult. One of the things I love about going to the cinema here and in Turkey is half way through the movie they stop for an interval - like they used to in UK many years ago. They don't find an appropriate place they just stop wherever, half way through a sentence. The cinemas here are very cheap and don't overcharge for drinks, ice creams, snacks, etc.

How right you are Aylin, going to the "pictures" here is certainly different. A couple of years back I went to the TRNC premier of Code Name Venus, held in the cinema underneath Lemar in Lefkosa. We arrived at the appointed time only to find they were just starting to stock up the bar and the nibbles hadn't arrived. Eventually we went back and absolutely no-one took any notice of the roped off area for VIP's and just plonked themselves down. There were girls trying to check off names of invited guests, but no-one took the slightest bit of notice of them, so they gave up. Half way through, and I'm not sure to this day whether it was deliberate or not, the film stopped, just like it used to back in days gone by in the UK. There of course there would be a chorus of boos, but in Lefkosa people just sat back, had a chat, wandered off for a bit and then came back. The film was restarted in more of less the same place it had broken down after a bit of fiddling around with Windows something or other on the screen. Not exactly Cannes, but hey, this is the TRNC!!
