English teacher needed - Native Speakers ONLY

Hello everyone,
Private English language classes with native English speaker urgently needed:
For 11yo child;
He can speak and understand English, but classes at school aren't enough - he needs more practice!
Will take him to your place and pick up after a lesson every time;
Preferably in Arapkoy - Catalkoy - Ozankoy area;
At least two-three hours per week; hourly rate can be negotiated, but in the past we were taking classes for 25-30TL/hour or 50TL/2hrs; (usually expats want to earn some extra cash, and very often people agree to be paid something around 30TL per hour, still better than nothing, right?)
Only native English speakers;
You should be ready to prepare and provide some study material for a work during the lesson and as a homework;
We need him to speak more, practice in conversations and improve grammar.

Please contact me here ASAP.

One of the problems for people such as I, for instanc,e who are qualified English teachers and with experience, is that technically we are not allowed to work at teaching without a work permit. Ideally you need say, a London Cypriot, who is mother tongue English but who is allowed to work. The problem is that they are probably working full time and do not have spare time.

I do wish you well, and maybe anyone interested regardless of location should phone you and discuss. I hope by widening your horizons on this one, you find someone.

I would love to do it, but........................no can do.

Hi, not sure if you are aware but the going rate for a private qualified English teacher is between 60 - 100 tl per hour ! I have looked into it for our 7 year old son who has learning difficulties and it's hard to find someone to do it for less ! We pay £20 per hour and over the summer period was paying 25 tl per hour to someone not qualified but willing to help and very patient. Not an easy task trying to find the right person! If you would like the phone number and name of the English teacher that I use please inbox me, he is really great with kids and lives in Ozankoy.

Very valid. I think you arelooking at two different categories of teaching. Firslty theprofesisional who know about preparation, et,c etc and who can assess where the child is at and what he needs - and that, a syou say, has a much higher rate of pay. Or secondly ex pats who are prepared to help with conversation and maybe vocabulary etc, but who would not have a clue about preparation etc.

But such time can be invaluable - reading with the child, getting them to talk about what they have read, helping themk to 'listen' through conversation or even watching a half hour simple television programme and discussing. This can be done by unqualified people, so perhaps you should aim a little lower and not actually look for an 'English teacher' but 'someone who can help with @~English'. Two different things.

Do you not have any neighbours who might be able to help on that level?

As I sai d before - 'Good luck'

Thank you for your replies.
That's true. We aren't looking for a professional / qualified / very much experienced tutor. We only need someone who is ready to help, but still has some understanding in terms of what the preparation for a class is and being able to recognize where a child is and what he needs - more practice, speaking, grammar, whatever.
No! Neighbours can't help. But I am sure there are lots of people who can try doing this and will be quite helpful. Will just keep looking. Still considering 'cheaper' options.

It isn't easy finding qualified teachers here. Those that work naturally ask a high rate in return for out of hours schooling. Those retired come up against the law that stipulates that if you get paid you need a permit. It doesn't help you either way.

I retired from teaching when I arrived here and I gave all of my resources away when I made the decision to retire. I've been asked on a number of occasions if I would provide private lessons but I've always said no. Firstly because I don't want to be paid (funnily enough the people that have approached me don't want that), secondly I don't want to commit to a child and then keep disappearing on them to go on holiday etc. A part of speciality teaching (second language, learning difficulties, special needs) is about building trust and that comes after time.

I'm still not absolutely sure what this person is looking for. At first I thought it was someone who could speak correct English and have conversations with a child and improve the conversational side of speaking English, particularly the vocabulary. In other words eradicate text speak and all the horrors that go with it.

That is what I thought Sophie, and judging form earlier comments, the kind of figure that Miss Carol is asking is what they do NOT want to pay. So I think yes, someone hwo will help with conversation and get a proper bit of grammar drummed in, and vocabulary that is nOT text-speak - innit?
