According to the above there was a fire in Karmi yesterday evening between 8.40pm and 10.30 pm ... not a big one ... but 20 pine trees were apparently affected

Any more details on this would be most welcome.

The report (in translation on Google Chrome) mentions something more re the garbage dump.....

" in the forest area in a half acres of the 20 pine trees were damaged by fire. Dilekkaya-Gaziköy BETWEEN FIRE garbage dump in the region known as Dilekkaya-Gaziköy Uzundağ between the fire broke out at about 14.00 yesterday. fire as a result 500 acres of pine, cypress, acacia trees, owned 400 acres of stubble and a roll of 40 and 80 square bales burned"

Were any houses affected?

Jayceebee,
I didn't mention the other fire that started at a rubbish dump between Dilekkaya and Gaziköy (to the east of Lefkosa), because I felt it would be of little interest to most Kibkommers. However, I felt the Karmi fire, albeit smaller, might have even affected some of our forum members.
The Dilekkaya fire wasn't mentioned in any other report or on any other news web-site, so I got the feeling the report had exagerated its size - the authorities certainly didn't seem that concerned about it. I presume there was no serious difficulty in getting the Dilekkaya fire under control and there are certainly no reports of houses being affected.
Rgds,

Thanks Ian.

I was unaware of the location of the dump fire...even wondered if it was anything to do with the dump near Karmi which is now used as a through road for construction traffic going up to a site at the end of Oleander Rd...near to where my house is...hence the concern.

Does anyone know exactly where the pine trees affected are/were!
