1001 near Ercan (airport mall)
I am a sucker for bargains "quality bargains".
I use to visit 1001 near the airport to pick few things, ranging from smallest "as small as" drill bits, cutlery & gardening / DIY items. prices can be as little as half laira "50korush".
I guess the owners bulk buyers of end of range / factory rejects or and anything traders round the world wish to dispose off. anything goes in 1001.
This place is very popular with the locals as its known for "value for money", no fuss; its a big warehouse.
You'll be lucky if you find an English speaking person among the staff. but then, should you find one make sure you learn the name & remember the face standby for your next visit. Better, I suggest you take a photo with this person. generally the staff try to help if they can. If they cant help, you are then on your own, find what you look for by yourself or with a help of a friend.
My advice don't try to make sense of the place.
Occasionally I come across quality bone-china from the UK, even clothes marked M&S. its a big warehouse, and you need to be patient when you are conducting search for that particular item.
One word of warning, some of cheap items are not fit for human use, therefore I suggest you check "expiry dates and warnings". warnings relating to hazard to children. I guess few of you already H&S is not paramount in TRNC'
You also, can find alcoholic beverages, coffee, soft drinks, choclates, etc., etc., (alwayscheck the labels)
Recently, I visited the place and to my surprise it is "under refurbishment". The front redone nicely and an advert for new "airport mall" to be reopened soon. Although the work is in progress, you still can go inside and do some shopping. The staff were stacking the shelves neatly ready for the grand opening.
while you are there, you can pick few xmas trimmings, hats., etc., etc.,
Good place to visit for bargains. I give it 10/10 for "lost in the maze" & baaargin baaaargin baaargin "in Brumi accent"
all the best, and let me know what you think.

By the way, having mentioned H&S which means in case you don't know "Health & Safety".
when you are looking for "warnings" regarding an item you are not sure off, and you cant find info about it, I suggest you use a bit of common sense and investigate risk of harm to you or to your family/ friends.
No need to be huffy, but be logical. TRNC unfortunately failing Health & Safety in many departments,... So, don't fail the H&S by not using common sense to avoid harm "Halloween is near".
next when you are near the airport give 1001 a try for Halloween shopping
Happy shopping

Went today but they kept having power cuts and there is no supplementary lighting, it sure was dark at the back. I've had some good items from there but you need to scout around. The re-furb has been going on for ages, I thought they might have finished by now.

Been there a number of times in the past occasionally you can find some wheat amongst the chaff. Tbh I thought it was closed whilst the refurb was going on!

Head to Ercan Airport, when you reach the big flyover you will see the big building on the corner. Take one of the exits "depending on which way you are approaching".
The building façade has grey-silvery stainless curvy finish, you wont miss it. The 1001 sign is removed, however you will see banner with some Turkish writing and "airport mall" written on it.
As I said, the work is on-going, so go inside and start hunting.
Good luck

Re: 1001 near Ercan (airport mall)
Sorry philoz, don't know opening hours, but I expect 1001 opens as the rest of the traders 9a.m-5.30 / 6.00p.m.
I was there few weeks ago on Sunday about 4.30p.m.
I have a suggestion for you, next visit to town (kyrenia) "shopping or having coffee" why don't you stop by nearest 1001 shop, check out the note on the door or ask one of the staff about their opening hours.
I will try to find out, but as I said, my guess its normal opening hours.
I only stop by when I am in the area...
best of luck
