TRNC Driving School Rqd
I have a friend who is going to be spending some time in North Cyprus and says he wants to learn to drive, he would like to gain some experience with a reputable driving school in the TRNC, he does not want to sit a test here just learn and become familiar with the techniques so he can go to the UK and hit the ground running in his attempt to pass a test there in as short a time as possible. I am expecting the usual driving banter replies but this is a serious attempt to find a school to help him in his endeavours, any relevant information would be much appreciated.

Speaking as a qualified ADI (Driving Instructor) in the UK, I would consider very carefully whether it would be worthwhile taking any lessons in the TRNC if you intend to take the UK driving test. I would be very surprised if the standards that TRNC Driving Instructors are required to meet in order to teach someone to drive to the TRNC driving test standard would get you much beyond quite basic car control. However if he does decide to proceed, I would be very interested in what they charge for an hour lesson over there. (maybe I should consider setting up in business over there )

He is aware of the difference in driving standards between here and the UK, however he has not driven is his life before and would like to master and be confident with the techniques involved before undertaking lessons in the UK (he is not in the UK for any great length of time, but he will be here for a month or 2) in order to hopefully cut the time involved with lessons and test taking.
I will keep you updated with costs if I ever get that far.

Özbek is very good, I learnt with Mr Özbek. I am afraid I no longer have his number but the driving school is located on the road just by the market (along with a couple of others). He has the patience of a saint and I would highly recommend him.

Had a laugh with an Instructor one day passing a driving school I asked him "do you teach how to drive with one hand while using a mobile phone" , he laughed and said "yes of course"

A few years back my son went to the driving school by the Market to book lessons. he completed a form and gave them the details of his UK Motor Cycle licence.
he went back the following week to start his lesson and the receptionist proudly presented him with a brand new full TRNC driving licence !. Now thats what I call service....and he had never once sat behind the steering wheel !.

Having been involved in the driver training in th UK in a number of capacities I would agree with Twaddle.
Once bad habits are learned, and I've seen a few here, then they will be difficult to change. Which may negate the whole excercise, and waste money.
