Turkey and Cyprus 'worst destinations' for weight gain
I know we shouldn't take these surveys too seriously, but all the same it's an interesting read
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/travel/trave ... -gain.html
"Holidaymakers heading to Cyprus or Turkey this summer are more likely to put on weight than those travelling to other popular destinations, new research has suggested. Visitors to the two countries, known for their kebabs, kofte, and sugary baklava, gain between 1.38kg and 1.5kg on average during their break, according to a survey by Fly Thomas Cook."
Top ten destinations for holiday weight gain
1. Cyprus + 1.5kg
2. Turkey + 1.38kg
3. Portugal + 1.30kg
4. United States + 1.08kg
5. Greece + 0.92kg
6. Netherlands + 0.83kg
7. France + 0.51kg
8. Australia + 0.5kg
9. Italy + 0.44kg
10. Belgium + 0.33kg

Unfortunately, it doesn't work that way

We can however lose weight in low temperatures, as the body uses energy so as to maintain the normal body temperature.

Hate to offer conflicting info, but I've lost 14lbs since I've been here, that would be over six months.

I have lost some weight here but not a lot, probably because I am more active and don't sit on an office chair all day

MoBry and Dippersgirl,
I'm sure you realise you're not in the category of Thomas Cook holidaymakers gorging themselves at open buffets every evening.
I've surprised myself by taking the findings seriously

Is this another case of 'How to lie with statistics'. who orghanised the survey and with whom and how man y and what areas? Personally I haVE never PUT WEIGHT ON WHILST ON HOLIDAY, and I am a natural fatty, so I guess it is a question of what a holiday means to you. But why Cyprus and Turkey, as i find the food is healthy unless you are going to over greasy grub. I thought USA was the place for weight increasing grub.

i always thought turkish food was quite healthy, lots of salad and beans and veg not much meat and lots of fruit, it may have nothing to do with the fact there tourists and swilling down the booze like there is no tomorrow perhaps
Karaman, its not all wax jackets and green wellies anymore

Hi Davpat,
Re ; "I wonder where the UK came in the listing?"
Like most people contributing to this thread, I don't take the findings too seriously, but your question is sort of answered in the article:
"While Britons who opt for a “staycation” this year may find themselves fitter for it – holidays in the UK resulted in an average weight gain of just 0.24kg."
I would agree with Andrew ... Turkish food, with its salads, olives etc is probably healthier ... provided that is, one doesn't stuff oneself
at the open buffet offered at probably most of the hotels/resorts here used by Thomas Cook.
