What spider?
We have a medium/large pale cream spider with intricate brown pattern on its back living in the slats of our bedroom shutters. He only moves out of there when its dark to go hang on his web and feed! Seems harmless enough, but I can't find him on any website and would like to know what he is please.

If you take a photo we can probably help - Kuskor (the North Cyprus Society for the Protection of Birds and Nature) has books with all the spiders known to be on Cyprus in them and we can check.sammydavis wrote:We have a medium/large pale cream spider with intricate brown pattern on its back living in the slats of our bedroom shutters. If you do get a photo you can post it on here or if want to send it to me let me know and I will PM my email address

Re: What spider?
If you google a brief description of the spider and then look at images, you may find it. I usually do this.

No idea what it is but I'd kill it if I was you.

Because it's a spider! You never know so better to be careful.
Also, if you leave one alone you will soon be faced with this................

No need to kill them at all, just humanely remove them to outside with a fishing net or similar, and then dispose of any eggs or detritus

Spiders eat things, that eat me, like mosquitos so leave them alone and remove them as suggested. An old wives tale, but it is supposed to be unlucky to kill a spider!!

Absolutely! Spiders serve a good purpose, I am hoping to be informed by a Jain Buddhist maybe, what purpose mosquitos and tics serve?

Re: What spider?
It does appear to be an Orb Spider, generally regarded as totally harmless - unless you are an arachnophobe
The photo is not sharp enough for my eye to fully distinguish which one..

Re: What spider?
I had an orb spider in the garden last week. Very pretty, and quite large. I found out what it was by googling on images, as I mentioned above.

I'm not 'ambitious' that's just a moniker the system allocates when your number of posts reaches a certain volume..... I find these 'nicknames' a tad annoying and would if I was choosing prefer to be 'Idiot' or 'Stupid fat Hobbit'sammydavis wrote:Thank you Groucho/ambitious - very helpful even tho' difficult without disturbing him to get better photo.

That looks like something out of the film Alien.
Kill it...........and quick.
Anything that moves indoors that is not human or pet is killed in my house. I always have a dilemna when the mother-in-law visits as I'm not sure.
