Please Explain This ??

About 3 months ago another cat turned up at our villa we live in Baspinar high up in the mountains. The cat is a nice cat but entire, and gave our own cats a hard time and quite vicious towards them on Tuesday evening he attacked one of our own cats very badly .

So I lost my temper with him and said ok your balls are coming off.

I put him in the basket and went to take him to the vets. At 6.00pm on Tuesday evening. He was panicking in the car in the back streets of Alsancak approx 9 kilometers from our villa. So I went to check he was OK but he escaped,

I was not to perturbed he was not our pet just another of the several cats we have cared for.

My God!!! This morning he arrived back at our Villa, now he will be our pet, I think he as proved himself. But how can a cat do this ??? find his way back over several mountains and rough terrain and return in less than 48 hours.

We find this quite unbelievable.

You never read "The incredible Journey" as a child? Family move house many, many miles away and their dogs and cat find their way to them over a very long period. Can't remember all the story no or how they got to be left behind but it really was amazing. I just found my cat, missing since April when I brought him to Yesiltepe from Catalkoy. He found his way to my friend's house down from Ilgaz where I lived before and he had spent only 1 night there, then i moved again. He wouldn't stay here but went back to that house he had only seen once. Preparing to fetch him here again asap.

In the early 80s, I lived in Islington North London. My neighbours moved to Kent, taking their cat (quite naturally). The cat however wasn't very happy there. On day two in his new home, he disappeared and turned up back in Islington a week later.

Cats are totally disloyal when it suits them and will transfer their affections to anyone who feeds them and pampers them... Dogs? They stick by their master through thick and thin - which makes them loyal but on the whole daft as a bag of frogs.

There was a cat dumped round our way who was making life very rough for the local female cats (even though they were all done, including the intruder). We tried to re-locate him a few miles away, but he turned up on our doorstep 36 hours later. I am happy to say he has a home now, where he is the only cat.

Thank you for your replies and very interesting links. Also nice to hear from a few old friends, ( I don't mean old in that sense).

Snakes nice version of The Cat Came Back, country style with good steel guitar on U tube.

I clocked the actual distance to day by road and its 11.5 K, I suppose as the Crow flies a lot less, (or should I say as the cat runs).

I think it would make a great documentary to attach some sort of Webcam or similar and see just how these clever creatures do this and what they get up to on their travels.

Horizon did a programme on cats this year called Cat Watch, they put GPS and cameras on 3 sets of cats, inner city cats, country living cats and semi feral cats living on a farm. The programmes were over 3 nights and they tracked the cats to see how far their territories were, what they got up to and how they interacted with each other.

It was quite interesting to see your purring furry bundle of joy revert to some of its wild ancestors ways. Some owners got to see the footage of their cats and were surprised at what their cats actually got up to.
