How does a foreigner renting a property get Kibtek connected

How does a foreigner who just moved here get the Kibtek connected at the property they are considering renting?

The deposit—no problem

Rental Contract—no problem

Local Guarantor—don’t have one and can’t get one.

Owner is in the UK—originally the Kibtek was going to be in their name (owner), but they cannot transfer the account from the current tenant to themselves as they are in the UK and cannot physically go to the Kibtek office and sign the necessary documents according to what they have told me.

Any suggestions or advice would be greatly appreciated, without the ability to connect the power, it makes moving difficult.

Suggest v you go into kibtek office and ask them. Only they can really answer your question. If you know someone who speakls turkish so much the better. Good luck

As far as I am aware, it doesn't matter whose name the account is in. When the bill comes in, you just go and pay it.
On our site, there are several properties in the name of previous tenants or previous owners and it doesn't cause a problem if the bills are getting paid on time.

Thanks will try doing nothing and see what happens.

But I would suspect the previous tenant will be seeking to get his deposit returned which I would think would result in the electric shut off.

As for the Kibtek office, they told the husband of the owner that he could not get Kibtek in his name as he is not on the title paperwork nor a local Cypriot. I am working with him to try to find a simple solution to leave the electric on and I just pay the bill.

The Kibtek office is the one who informed the husband that I need to give the deposit, rental contract, and guarantor. I don't have a guarantor here so that is where the issue is.

Why isn't the property connected? It could mean it has been cut off due to non payment of the bills by the current tenant. To get it re connected the arrears have to be paid first. Are you renting thru an agent? They should deal with this or at least tell you what to do. As said previously it doesn't matter whose name is on the bill as long as its paid. If there are arrears the agent should pay them using the deposit left by tenant.

Hi I agree with Kedikat but your post is not clear as to whether the electricity is connected or has been disconnected?
If it is connected just carry on with it & pay the bills, if it has been disconnected ask to see the latest bill so you know how much money is at stake here. As said it will not be reconnected until the bill has been paid. Kibtek do not care who incurred the bill they will not pursue them or even use their deposit (yes you would think that this is what the deposit is for!) but they have you by the short & curlys because no reconnection will happen until someone pays the arrears & reconnection charge.

I think that Ozankoys has summed it up perfectly, if the supply has actually been cut off.

Incidentally, I believe that the deposit is for the Meter (presumably in case you're tempted to run off with it ) which could be why they don't seem to use it to clear arrears...

Thanks everyone for the advice.

I am working with the landlord to get it sorted, but I believe it has been sorted. The last tenant did not pay the bill for several months. The landlord went and brought the account up to date and the power has been restored.

The owner was concerned that the current tenant may close the account as it is in the current tenants name. Hopefully it will remain as is and as everyone has said, I will just pay the bill as it shows up once we have actually rented the property.

Thanks

I was in the same situation, landlord/owner in the UK, property had been disconnected because nobody had used it several years, to get it reconnected and changed into my name cost me 1495TL this would have been only 400TL if the landlord/owner had done it but being in the UK impossible, the only alternative was to have a TC as a guaranttor, but sadly I don't have one, so just paid up but will get the deposit back should I leave the property. Hope this helps

It is a good point, do you ever get your Kibtec deposit back? If it's actually for the meter and not a deposit then I suspect not.
