TICK help please.
Have a tick infestation in the garden (I've never seen so many), thus the dogs are getting covered and I don't know what to do.
The dogs are both front-lined and have the paraband collars, but its not stopping them getting covered. Have found out bleach is good for the patio areas etc.
But what will take the ticks away, and one of my dogs has clusters of them on both ears.
Help !!!

Re: TICK help please.
We had a man come round to spray around our house and he asked if we wanted the inside done as well. we said yes as we were going to England for a holiday that day. We have an old house and I don't know what he sprayed, he assured us it was no problem to us or the cats( )
We came back after two weeks and the house was just full of dead things (more woodlice than I could count, forty footers-big centipeeds, endless beetles, etc, etc) and all is nice now, especially very few mosquitoes. We asked him if he came from the Belediye and he said no from the Health Ministry. Well that's what I underestood, my Turkish is still minimal.
Maybe you need something like that. sometimes one has to do more drastic things

Had similar problem, though less so and the Belediye came out and sprayed the back yard. Was effective.
the tick spiders were apparently coming from olive grove behind the house.
Hope you get sorted.

Good idea to let Belediye know and they send in the Infestation people.
They do a good job , also they will convince you that it is safe to stay around.
We survived !. They turned up the same day as well and were very cheerful !.

Do you have to stay away from the house for any period of time, after it's been done?

Re: TICK help please.
We did not ask him to come and it did not cost anything. He told us anybody can have this service and to call him when we needed it, though ours was a local man (Dipkarpaz). He said wait 30mins., the cats had fled anyway at the sight of a man with a strange gadget.
Other years I had been told to contact the Belediye, but I was not so keen as the man came with a portable petrol engine sprayer and the stink of the petrol was worse than the poison, like some ancient moped.

Re: TICK help please.
Suggest you contact KAR as regards getting them off the dogs, you will get all sorts of well intentioned advice off people such as, burn them off with cigarettes. I would suggest you do not try to get them off with fingernails as if you only get the body and the head remains embedded in the animal it can cause a very nasty infection.
All the above advice is good as regards getting rid of them from your garden, as MEL says, look for the tiny spiderlike things, they are the tics before they latch on and become full of life sapping blood.
Where are you located?

Re: TICK help please.
We have four dogs which we take out on mountain trails regularly. Ticks are an ongoing problem, we frontline them monthly but that only works for so long. We are constantly finding and removing them from the dogs (and each other sometimes). The best way is to grip them and turn them 180 degs, they then let go and you can kill them with a sharp object. We've got used to them so don't see it as a big problem, just a fact of life here. It has been particularly bad this year due to all the rain we had - all wildlife seems to be thriving, even the less desirable, unfortunately.

Re: TICK help please.
I have a tick remover that I got from the vets in England. Very simple device that tucks under the tick and pulls the whole thing out, or If you put a little cream on the tick, after a few minutes it wll come off easily or even fall off. If you pull them off and the legs get stuck, again put a bit of cream (i.e. savlon) and then the last bit comes out easily.

Dont know what the Beledeye used last year but neither of my 2 dogs or cat have hosted a single tick so far this year.
Going for the source worked, maybe the Beledeye spray neutralised the breeding ground.

Metin, I'm pretty sure that Karaoglanoglu doesn't have it's own Belediye but comes under Girne. I stand to be corrected if anyone know better.

Re: TICK help please.
i have worked with dogs for 40 years and dealt with many ticks over the years. the only safe way of getting the whole tick out is to shock them into releasing the pinchers that hold the head under the skin. heat does the job whether it is a cigarette or hot metal but you must be very careful not to burn the dog. never pull or twist the tick as you risk leaving the head behind.always check the tick is complete after it is released.i have the tool from the vets this can leave the head in the dog.it sits between the shoulders of the tick and the skin of the dog the ticks head is under the skin. i have had ticks on myself and the only method i use is to shock them with heat and you know you the whole tick has been removed.
