The water has been cut off again in Lapta. Same situation as previously - non payment of electricity bill. Enquiries as to when it might be reconnected are being met with the usual Cyprus shrug.

Apparently there has been a Court case, brought by Kibtec, claiming non payment of elec bills by Lapta.
Recent bills have been paid but not those prior to 2008. Lapta claimed that they were not responsible for these - central Government???

There have been talks with the President but I doubt whether he's got any dosh??
This may take a while to resolve!
In the meantime, shower with a friend!!!!!!! :((

I have just been on the phone to the beli., apparently the mayor is having a meeting today. If the meeting goes well, we should have water today, if not they don't know when we will next get any !!!!!
We currently have no water, and my average use is 4 ton a month.
The reason for this post is just to advise you to check your tanks as we actually called our plumber as we though our pump had seized up.

The water's been off for days ! The reason that Lapta haven't paid their electricity bill (again!) is because Namsoy is scratching around to find the money for his workers' usual bonus 13th salary, payable this month. Perhaps it's time that they were told that the 13th salary is a privilege, not a right.

message 9 no but it is cheaper to fill up 5tons for a delivery and it will last you a week at least in stead of filling up a 2 ton tank every other day

Not sure what you mean Gates. Most of us don't have 5 ton tanks, or use 2 tons every other day.

Went down to the Lapta water dept yesterday.
They said water off due to non payment of bill. It is 'ongoing' and don't know when it will be resolved.

I've just spoken to the Beli., they are starting to pump the water today, but as lots of people are out, it'll probably be tomorrow before we all get some. Happy days,

I can't believe the meter man came yesterday, must say earlier than usual, and read our meter

It was higher than last month, and thats without having any water for at least 7 days

I wonder if when we go to pay the bill, we will get a discount DON'T THINK SO

Its no good asking because all you get is a SHRUG !!!!

hahahaha, Wibow, during one of the summer months, we had very little water. My meter read 23 ton, I went to speak to the beli., got the shrug, and had to pay, or was told I'd end up being cut off. They admitted it was probably air, and they fitted a ''thingy''to stop it.
Fingers crossed.

I am n shown on here that we will continue to pay for a service which we don't get. The days of the Cyprus shrug are almost over with regard to water I hope - it seems that perhaps the water coming in from Turkey will be run completely privately with (yes really) foreign investors up to 90%. This is the way forward, a proper business with brains running it and shareholders to answer to. This situation with the belediyesis just is not sustainable and has no place in the modern world. Bring it on please!

I refused to pay for a new mains pipe along about a 150 metre road 7 years ago at a cost of £750.00. Instead we installed 2 x 5 tonne water tanks and pay 60tl about every 8 weeks or so to get them filled.

Actually, this is another issue, having to pay for 10 tonnes of water every month, even if you only use a couple of tonnes, there is no incentive to save water at all. Just make sure that your Turkish neighbours give you a waterman's details and the price as there is a tremendous rip off in water delivery charges.

So glad we decided not to have a swimming pool, just a spa which holds one tonne of water and we empty it every 4 months and water the garden with the water.

I live in Ozankoy, live on my own and use about 3 tons a month maybe 5 if I have visitors. Last year got a bill for 26 tons, was told by Zoe the Muhtar's daughter in law, that I could pay to have the meter tested, they would find it OK and I would still have to pay, so may as well pay up anyway!!!following month back to 3 tons!

Is this really the case or is Mayor Namsoy just not able to deal with the water shortages that keep occurring due to increased demand and not just Lapta, but all villages were warned many years ago about facing serious water shortages, has he just not done anything about it. What happened to the suggestion he made to tackle the shortage by desalinating water from Akdeniz to use in Lapta? Was it tested? Did Lapta get the pump fixed on the new well that cost 200,000TL 5 years ago? Or was it just another reason to give for the fact that the water was off for 3 weeks at that time and telling people they would have to use private tankers to deliver water. Owl Lady.
The times the water is not on causes air to enter the system, when they turn the water on you get a rush of air before the water, the air turns the meter faster than the water which causes the high bills.
As Zoe has said they will find no fault with the meter.

You were saying about getting in a tanker ( 25tl )

but luckily your water is back on, our's isn't

so have you got a telephone number for a small tanker

the one we got in last Sunday was a big tanker, so he filled house tank up

then put the remainder in the pool

Much appreciated xx

Thanks for the explanation Karmels, I appreciate that. Why can't the" powers that be" also see that, and agree as there is a problem, and that it is obviously wrong, to reduce it to the normal bill??

Owl Lady,

If they don't admit that there is a problem, then they are not obliged to do anything about it, and can happily carry on taking your money off you!

If they were to admit to the existence of a problem, then they would have to spend time and money investigating the cause, time and money finding a solution, and time and money implementing that solution.

God forbid, they might even have to get off their lazy, fat A***s to do it!

That's why the standard response of Authority here to any problem is denial

I don't quite understand what's going on, my daughter, who lives further along than I has her tank full. My tank still only has a few inches of water in it. Another friend who's even further along, still had had no water as of 10 o'clock this morning:(

But my neighbour has managed to get a small tanker, so we are all full up again.

This is getting stupid, some people are saying they have had water and some haven't had any

and yet we are all in Lapta, so whats going on

Thanks again

If your neighbours have had water after a period of non-delivery by the Belediye, but you have not, might I suggest that you check that your inlet valve, located on the "Belediye side" of your meter is positioned " in-line" with the water pipe. We live in an area with a high percentage of "swallow homes". One of our neighbours, on the same supply pipe as us, did not receive water for several days after our supply was restored. A local Cypriot neighbour was visiting them for coffee and on her way out noticed that the inlet valve had been switched to the "off" position.

We have no proof, but our area receives very litle traffic, vehicle or foot, and we suspect that the water meter reader, assuming that our friend's house was that of a "swallow", had turned the lever to the "off" position; if so - then a nice little earner for the Belediye! A second neighbour who lived several hundred yards away, experienced a similar problem.

Also check your ballcock in the tank..as a swallow I had a problem in the summer, we were really low on water and when it came on I heard the tanks filling up from our apartments and thought great however the next morning I checked the tank and the ballcock had stuck in the full position limescale had seized it up ?

Still no water! Anyone got an update??
Just had my bill and I have a charge of 18.33TL for "Temizlik", not sure what this is, so googled it and it says cleaning? My neighbour doesn't get charged for this. Does anyone get charged this and what exactly is it for?

Lapta charge me 18.33 every other month. Google translate offered 'cleanliness' so I assumed it was street/public space cleaning and the Beli offices - of course!!!!
