signs of the times - or is it?
today is my birthday - yes, 21 plus again - but I was struck at just how life has changed. I have loads of greetings on Facebook which have made my heaxrt sing and brought a tear to my eye, but not one card to the door, not one callon the telephone (one text message from U.k) , not one knock at the door.
i miss the good old days - or am I getting too old for being the mModern Milly I always thought I was.
I miss humans in my life!

Re: signs of the times - or is it?
Sign of the times I'm afraid, the cost of postage, the bother to find a card, write it out, walk it to the post box or the post office, the price of a mobile call, etc, when all you have to do is stay at your pc and type a few keys. At least that is my take on it. For my 50th I only recieved 6 cards, and I always keep my cards, birthdays anniversarys, even Christmas greetings are getting to be email cards. etc, its not the same keeping an email. I totally understand where you are coming from.
Have a very happy birthday Marion and may you have many more to come, with cards next year hopefully.

Re: signs of the times - or is it?
I agree, a rather sad sign of the times. I get some lovely and very clever ecards at birthdays and Christmas etc. but I cant put them on the mantlepiece and SHARE them with others . And taking the trouble to chose and deliver a card etc shows caring -
Just look on the bright side - at least you dont have to keep dusting round them until you decide they should be removed. Then make the hard decision as to whether to keep them (ending up with a house stuffed with boxes of souvenirs), toss them into the bin feeling ungrateful or put them on one side for delivery to a Charity and find them at the back of a shelf or cupboard three years later.
Hope you have a good birthday anyway, Marion.

As someone who makes her own cards, I completely agree, I love to receive cards & don't like the electronic greetings at all. Its all too easy to send those without too much thought in the process. Happy Birthday anyway (have sent a text as been out all day) xx

is there a way that the forum can automatically inform members of peoples birthdays as they have on skype, which has been useful as i,m rubbish at keeeping track of birthdays, and it would be nice if members sent birthday messages to those who don,t recieve any.just a thought.

You could always enter dates into the calendar - Calendar as you come across them.billywiz wrote:happy birthday marion

I do agree that the facility to get an automatic announcement of Birthdays on some Forums is handy though...

Re: signs of the times - or is it?
It was my big XXXXXth just over 3 weeks ago and I was absolutely delighted to receive masses of actual cards from UK, Australia (although that one was 2 weeks late) and here. They totally filled the top of the sideboard and I didn't receive an electronic one from anywhere. In turn I try very hard to make sure that people receive proper cards from us, but I do allow for late delivery and send an Ecard as well to foreign parts, just to make sure people receive something on the actual date.

Re: signs of the times - or is it?
Thanks folks. i was not fishing for wishes, but thanks for them. it was also gratifying to realise that I am not alone in my thinking. I now have to think of a way to print out the facebook greetings, so I can use them as wallpaper - then I don't have to dust around them!
Must admit though that cards are hardly worth sending here - they get lost, or arrive so late they are early for next year.
And did I have a good day? Thanks for asking - but NO. Himself was not well, has not been for a week, so as he was sick this morning my outing was to town to get him medication. He can take me out for a meal on my Official birthday, which is not yet decided. poor ol' me, but all the facebook greetings I had made me feel that people do care - and that is what matters, innit?

Never been to Korineum beach. Will take a look. But 'imself doesn't do beaches. I gave up swimming years ago because of that, sonot sure I will get him onto a beach no matter how 'classy' - but I willmoswt certainly take a look.
And thanks Mel for the good wishes. He is still alive today and taking the tablets and hopefully is on the way back to buying me a meal out and eating properly.
Meanwhile, it being such a hot and sweaty day, he is suffering again. Personally I love any heat (unless stranded in a desert) as I 'die' in the cold.

That being the case Marion, you are a very active Ghost in the Winter. Just stick another pair of thermals on and you'll be fine. Hmmm "Ghost in the Winter", good title for a book?

Yes, I like that 'ghost in the winter'. if only I had time to write books. Sucha lonely occupation though, and in my cold home even a ghost cannot keep up with the typing (fingers don't work properly). But who knows what the future holds.
It certainly doesnot hold with 'im downstairs' ever appearing on a beach in a swimsuit- in fact nbot appearing at all. But maybe in a deckhchair above it all.
thanks for the idea

Birthday announcements have been added. You can view them at bottom of Board Index page. Would be nice if all members filled in their profiles in the User Control Panel.

Nice one Soner. Thanks. Now we can all make each other feel better at least o nce a year - but forget the ages, just celebrate the achievements of yet another year of life.
