I would be interested in attending, but I cannot think of how the support of the expatriate community would help, we dont have a vote do we?

Aitchie,
You may not have the vote but you can influence those that do.
Dr Siber has huge sympathy with the problems that some expats have experienced especially the subject of title deeds and citizenship. This is the first time a politician in our parliament has shown real concern towards expats.

No Cypriot North or South has ever shown the slightest "sympathy" or "concern towards expats" proven many, many times by their inept ways, why should expats keep emptying there pockets with the promise of NOTHING.

I agree Munchkin but I have been at events over the years where the Govt of the day has been represented and gave very promising speaches regarding how they understand the expat frustrations etc etc and how they will change all that, it hasnt happened yet, and I wont be holding my breath until it does...however it doesnt mean that I wouldnt clutch at yet another straw that came my way!

Re: Dr Sibel Siber Presidential campaign 2015
200tl for a night out for Sibel to meet us, is a bit unaffordable. However, I would happily sit with her and give my opinion on this and that! I found her a lovely lady when I interviewed her last year, but I honestly cannot see that going to an unaffordable dinner will help the cause of the ex pats, especially as we cannot vote, and to think of using us to persuade others to vote for her, seems a little odd. Sorry, but I came here to be a citizen ten years ago and the goal p0osts have been moved so many times, I am in despair. Many politicians and people in high places often say this and that, and are kind and sympathetic, but it changes nothing. Let's face it, they are not going to change the law for me- no one is that important.
Now if Dr Sibel said 'Of course, Marion , we will make you a citizen now and then you can vote for me in April' , I might just find the 100tl!!!
Do I sound cynical, I do hope not. As I say I would vote for Dr Sibel as I have a great regard for her, but I don't think my presence at any dinner will make an iota of difference.
So I await the personal interview!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Happy Christmas to all!

Re: Dr Sibel Siber Presidential campaign 2015
And why is it that we have only7 just heard of this Tony, at this busy time of the year. Is the same offer through the BRS, the ATA, the FRS ETC, and if not, why not?
Gosh I am being cynical again. I have great respect for Tony (who I know has been a citizen for many years) and thank you for telling us Tony about this. But why not form other sources and why not earlier. Ah well, just another 'this is Cyprus' situation.

You could at least give the woman a chance. She certainly rattled a few cages, the short period was in "temporary control", and is now the speaker!!. Hopefully, one day she will be in full control!

Re: Dr Sibel Siber Presidential campaign 2015
Good question Johnnie. Certainly when talking with her she expressed sympathy and understandin g, but wa sin no position to do anything much! As to being in 'control' - no one is here - no one! But she can make a dent, I am sure, for she is sincere and honest!

Re: Dr Sibel Siber Presidential campaign 2015
Maybe, Johnnie, someone can give us a statement if they have been personally helped by Dr Sibel. However, I am sure with limited time available, she might not have had the time to help as she would like (and that goes for locals a smuch as ex pats). But does anyone out there have a story to share???

Re: Dr Sibel Siber Presidential campaign 2015
Would be interested to hear any reports Maryons, especially as she is "keen to have the support of the expat community". Not sure about "the limited time available" people seem to expect miracles from politicians in short periods however some evidence that this is where her interests are would be helpful in gaining support.

Dr Sibel is the best of the bunch and would make real changes for the better if she became president. She was the one who attempted to ban the sale of poison over the counter, and I'm sure her heart is in the right place. In my view she should be given a chance.

Glad to see she is still fighting after seeing the headlines
Sibel Siber number 3 in opinion polls, CTP officials are quoted by Volkan as saying that “we can lose the elections, but we cannot stay behind Akinci”,
I was expecting a male name put forth

Methinks I read in papers when her short time in office was nearly over that someone in suits said "it is not in our culture to have women as leaders" What has happened to change that believe? Like Marion I can't help sounding cynical.

Years ago in the UK would you have thought a woman would ever be Prime Minister??

Yes, OL I always believed a woman would make it in UK. Here, however, I do have my doubts until the male population become more enlightened and less egotistical.
