Visiting relatives
Choose your spouse, friend, relative, in difficult days. On a good day, no one shows their purity.

Deniz1,

There are many ways of finding out people's true identity, and therefor their address and other personal details - some of them legitimate and in the public domain, and others 'not so' legitimate, such as 'Social Engineering', not to mention 'computer traces' such as reverse I.P. lookup...

For instance, friends or family may know what your 'screen name' is, and inadvertently mention it to others, you may use the same 'screen name' on other forums, or sites such as Facebook, which actually have your photo, date of birth, job, marital status, names of friends and family etc on view for all to see.

You may have mentioned your telephone number or email address in connection with selling or buying items, which might be recognized by a third party to whom you had legitimate reason to give those details, but who might be less than trustworthy.

You may have mentioned your general location in connection with a lost or found pet, and someone might be able to put two and two together and use your nickname (which I know that a lot of people know you by!) to positively identify you.

And that is without going into the more 'technical' methods.

I'm not saying that you should be worried about a 'super spy caliber' of crook, but thieves are, by their nature, dishonest and devious, and often put quite a bit of effort into their chosen 'profession' in order to identify a likely prospect.

I just think that it is not advisable to make life easy for them to target you by telling them when your home is going to be empty.

Crikey, it's like being back in the UK.....

I'm glad I live in a part of a village no one passes on a whim because it's too high up and out of the way. We've never locked our house, and we can leave stuff out on the prorch, and there it stays.
