Menu ... you didn't know about SANTA 1. Santa Claus (or Father Christmas) was originally known as Saint Nicholas. He is the patron saint of children. He is also the patron saint of sailors.

3. With a global population over seven billion people, the elves in Santa’s workshop need to make more than five million presents every day of the year to meet demands.
4. Santa has a calculated 31 hours to deliver gifts on Christmas Eve, thanks to the different time zones and the rotation of the earth, assuming he travels east to west.
5. In 1999, Santa Claus had to visit an estimated 42,466,666 homes across North America and Europe on Christmas Eve. That's 983 homes per second.
6. In Poland, Santa Claus distributes gifts on the 6th of December
7. Santa’s ninth reindeer was originally named Rollo - and then Reginald - before Robert L. May settled on Rudolph in his 1939 song.
8. In India, Father Christmas is known as Christmas Father.
9. The American state of Indiana has a town called Santa Claus, and in Alaska there is a town called North Pole.
10. There are more than 2,700 languages in the world. Santa is fluent in all of them. In addition, he speaks a secret elf language.

Fatouche is quite correct and the myth started there. He was a person who used to distribute bags of gifts/sweets once a year to the poor and needy by throwing them over their garden wall or into their windows once a year, hence the Father Christmas as we now know him, delivering presents via our chimneys.

Some unknown to me facts here and maybe this is another: Having to be in so many places at the same time Santa - St Nick - must have cracked the Quantum Mechanics Theory in a BIG way - an object can be in two places simultaneously at he same time - and he uses it to great effect.
