Pegasus' Scrooge behaviour

We returned from the UK on 13th December, as our families had given us our Christmas presents we knew we would be overweight and duly visited the website and purchased an additional 5k of luggage allowance.

We were quite shocked to find that at check in they weighed our cases together. Mine weighed 20.6k and my husband's weighed in at 25.4 which took in the additional 5k. They said as our COMBINED WEIGHT was over 45k by a full kilo we would have to pay and additional £12.

We have been travelling together for 30 years and never has our luggage been weighed together.

Sue. they do not give a flying s--t literally. Flown dozens of times with them and they always manage to make it heavier than everyone elses scales and charge the maximum possible on excess baggage.

We once came through 2 other airports with a certain weight , yet Pegasus made it more, I did complain, but they did not even reply, and on the same flight the person sat next to me had the same moan.

But. after saying all this, on the whole we have found them excellent, flights always on time and if they leave late they normally make it up. I have had leg room seats many time for no charge, the staff have, in general been pretty good.

Also for what they charge then I suppose they need to get some revenue back from other directions, our last flight a couple of weeks back was around £230 return each, My god Imagine if we could run our cars for the same money.

This is extraordinary, because I know loads of people who have asked for their luggage to be weighed together and then divide by 2 and they have been told that this is not permitted. Sorry to say suehowlittle, you have the wrong nationality in your passport, otherwise you could have probably been allowed to do as you asked. Have to admit we have, by and large, treated OK by Pegasus, but this has been more by luck than "place of birth".

On their website the fee at the airport for excess baggage is £10.00 or £6.00 if booked on the web.where does the £12.00 come from.
However in the airlines defence they are I suppose within their rights to have charged you two lots of excess baggage one bag being 20.4 and another at 20.6 both bags are over 20 kg so the charge could have been two times £ 10.00. Again I don't know why they have charged £12.00.
I have always invested in a decent pair of scales and to be honest it's uncanny how my scales match up to the airlines always identical and not just with Pegasus.What does annoy me is how the locals seem to get away with massive amounts of hand luggage.

They only charge excess baggage if you are 1 FULL kilo or more over the limit. If two people both had 20.9 each there should still be no charge.

In your case, at 25.4 and 20.6 you should not be charged as you paid for the 5KG excess. However, it seems that by being crafty and combining the two weights takes it to 46KG so they can charge you for 1 extra Kilo........ very sneaky. I take it you were both on the same ticket, which most people would be and I guess that's how they are getting away with combining the weights.

If they are going to start doing this then I think I'll do separate bookings for myself and my other half in future, as they won't be able to do it then!!!

That is a good idea Guru but how can you then elect to sit together?

Think they are mean, especially as it was one of their staff previously told me that as long as your case did not weigh a full kilo over the allowance then you could not be charged.

Scroogy behaviour, and it was not just us, there was quite a queue to pay for excess and we were watching people take items like a hairdryer and stuff out of their luggage and put it into their hand luggage. We could have done that as our hand luggage was light, I only had my computer case, they should have looked at the big plcture. My computer case and contents were around 4 kilos

Just wanted people to be aware of what I perceive to be a scam!

That is a good idea Guru but how can you then elect to sit together?

We never pre book our seats but would still check in together and if they try to combine the luggage we would simply say these are separate bookings and if they want us to check in individually then fine.

I came out beginning of December from Stansted was 9kilo over on the suitcase and 4 over on hand luggage no charge thank you pegasus

I have been over weight and charged and been over weight and not charged
Im sure it's down to the desk Clerk, They may get a bonus for changing extra who knows, they may just be having a bad day
At least with Pegasus & Monarch you can but extra weight, with Turkish Airlines you can't, I have weight my case its 23.3 Kgs, I'm allows 23Kgs lets see what happens on boxing day when I fly back out

Sorry to sound contradictory, but I have nev er had problems with Pegasus. Not that I fly tha t much these days, but on one occasion returning from U.K, the Pegasus check in lady, was VERY helpful with me and the weight of my case. Plus when we travelled together, our cases were always put on together as we were two travelling together.r Maybe the rules have changed. Last time I flew it was to Italy and back, and no probs of any kind.

Maybe the staff are overworked and underpaid and therefore not on top form. I have no idea, but as I say, so far I have not had problems with Pegasus.

I know that doesn't help you but I hope it creates a bit of a balance.

When I moved here in March I paid in advance for an additional 10Kgs and was still over but I had no charge, maybe due to already having purchased extra but the check in guy was really nice.

I will be coming back from the UK in Jan with lots of purchases so will see what happens, between me and my partner we have 50KG allowance and separate bookings and 1 UK national and 1 Turkish, maybe we can confuse the staff enough to not get charged if still over
